Maharani Season 2 Review Contains No Spoilers
In Maharani Season 2, CM Rani Bharti (Huma Qureshi) faces many big challenges. Rani has to deal with her husband and ex-CM Bheema Bharti (Sohum Shah). Bheema is Rani’s biggest opponent and would go to any extent to defeat Rani. The rise in corruption and crime in Bihar adds more to the tension. People are angry and losing faith in Rani’s government. How will she handle the situation? We get to see everything in the 10 episodes.
Maharani Season 1 was about Bheema’s fall and how Rani Bharti became the CM from a simple housewife. In season 2, Rani is more confident, and her lack of education doesn’t stop her from taking big decisions. After back-to-back big crimes in Bihar, Rani does everything she can to resolve the issues. But it’s not always enough.
The trailer described Bihar in the best way possible. When one thinks they’ve figured out the state, they get another big shock. That’s exactly what’s happening with Rani in the show. Whenever she thinks she has solved one crisis, another big problem arises.
Writers Subhash Kapoor, Nandan Singh and Umashankar Singh have highlighted some crucial issues that have always been the biggest challenges in Bihar politics. Some burning issues since the 90s pertinent even today are women’s safety, caste discrimination and the rule of the goons, aka Gunda raj.

While the writers wrote a solid political plot, director Ravindra Gautam kept the setting quite raw. The first season felt a bit over the top and a bit unrealistic. But season 2 gets real, brutal, disturbing and even reminds us of how things haven’t changed decades later.
Maharani 2 turns out to be one of the best political series in terms of explaining how the politicians play their dirty games. When one has nothing good or controversial, they will hire a PR agency to stay in the news. If that wasn’t enough, religion always becomes the best tool to fool the public and increase the vote bank. The makers have shown that all the politicians care about is being in power and would go to any extent for the same. The execution seems realistic, and that makes it an insightful watch.
With CM Rani Bharti trying to govern the state honestly, the showrunners highlight how no one stands by the truth. Rani does her best to do right in every situation, but in a highly corrupted place and male-dominated profession, will she be taken seriously? Will she survive?
Huma Qureshi gives an earnest and powerful performance as CM Rani Bharti. Rani has several vulnerable moments in season 2. Huma does a brilliant job; this time, the actor’s Bihari accent is on point. Sohum Shah and Amit Sial as Rani’s opponents Bheem Bharti and Navin Kumar are men who won’t stop at anything. Both the actors are incredible and make for worthy opponents. The rest of the cast plays their part well.
Maharani Season 2 Review: Final Thoughts
Overall, Maharani Season 2 gets as real as it can. The series keeps getting better with every episode. The current season is better than season 1 in every way. Huma Qureshi and the team present a compelling and significant political drama to us. In an overall setting, the show is quite intriguing. But some small scenes or conversations have a tremendous effect. It’s a must-watch.
Season 2 is now streaming on SonyLIV.
