They are not convinced by this as it will not be helpful in lessening his punishment but that is something that Bang Gu-ppong’s mother wants not him. What he wants is the liberation of children. At Hanbada, Woo Young-woo cannot stop talking about Bang Gu-ppong in front of Lee Jun-ho as he remarks that it is the first time she is talking this much about a person and not whales. Later, she tries to be nice to him by pulling his chair.

During the trial, while the driver is giving his statement he suspects that the defendant had checked the academy’s schedule and also picked the drink he gave to the driver. While the attorneys try to object, Bang Gu-ppong agrees to these speculations and apologizes to the driver. On the way back to Hanbada, the attorneys are further disappointed when they find out that the director has been unable to get a single non-punishment letter while the parents are planning to file a class lawsuit.

They reach a restaurant where one of the children is having her dinner late and try to ask her for some time to inquire about the incident. She tells them that this is still early as Mujin Academy would have locked classes and would not let them leave until 10 PM. However, she is late for a study cafe and hurries to leave while telling them that they find the other kids in a nearby convenience store.

There they talk to an employee who tells about the pitiful situation of students these days while a crowd of students run in and buy their dinner. Later, Woo Young-woo spots a child with an acorn necklace and approaches the two kids. She once again learns about the shocking pressure put on these children while the kids express their wish to meet Bang Gu-ppong again. The two along with Hwan Min-woo go to the parents of the children and the director to plead for their signatures on the non-punishment forms. While the mothers are angry, the director gets on her knees and begs them to forgive her son who is not mentally stable, which melts the hearts of the others as they sign the forms. After they have all left, Woo young-woo comes to her and tells her that maybe she just needed to hear out her son and try to understand him more instead of labelling him mentally unstable.

At the trial, the attorneys try to reduce Bong Gu-ppong’s sentence by proving him to be mentally unstable. However, Woo Young-woo is reminded of the whales kept in tanks who end up with bent fins due to being trapped. She sees those children as these trapped whales and is unable to stop herself from putting forth the ideology that Bong Gu-ppong stands for which counters the testimony of the psychiatrist.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo Episode 9 Review

Extraordinary Attorney Woo episode 9 was an eye-opener to the education system in the present world, especially in a country like South Korea. While the competition in the world keeps increasing, parents today are worried for the future of their children and this worry only becomes a pressure for the children. While the parents are not wrong to worry about them, it is important that they also keep in mind that they are still children and should have a childhood that they can remember.

Having the world pity your child while you continue to pressurise and scare them is not the way they should spend their childhood. Even when the competition increases, let the children pave their way and just trust the process because each child is special and should not be trapped in a tank that will bend their fins.

This episode has made my respect for Jung Myung-seok’s character increase, he really is the best mentor anyone could get. One won’t just learn the ways of an attorney but also the way of life. I really enjoy his scenes, his professionalism and his realistic mind.

It also looks like Woo Young-woo and Lee Jun-ho are finally starting on something and this time it is official. Lee Jun-ho is worried because dating her will be very different from dating anyone else and this is something that cannot be understood by everyone. His dating life will be very different from what we call normal and his worries are understandable.

But I also have to point out that while Hwan Min-woo doesn’t have the best instincts, he is really good at giving some relationship advice. I see a change coming his way after what Jung Myung-seok has told him today and I really hope I’m right because who doesn’t like an ideal world.

The episode ended with Tae Soo-min being pictured by someone while she is meeting Woo Gwang-ho and this seems to be the beginning of something really big that will change her life.
