Cannes 2022 has brought yet another honour to the South Korean movie industry. Over the past few years, Korean movies and dramas have become more and more popular around the world. The Korean movie, Parasite created history after winning four big awards at the Oscars and it is only way up for the Korean film industry now.
At the 75th Cannes Film Festival, Song Kang-ho won the award for Best Actor for his role in the film Broker. He became the first Korean male actor to win the award and the only second Korean actor to win this award after Jeon Do-yeon who won the Best Actress Award in 2007 for her film Secret Sunshine.
Song Kang-ho was previously seen in Parasite which not only created history at the Oscars but also won the prestigious Palme d’Or awards at the Cannes Festival in 2019. He has also served on a jury at the 74th Cannes Film Festival, a first for any male Korean actor.

Park Chan-wook Awarded Best Director At Cannes 2022
Along with Song Kang-ho, another Korean artist has won a big award at Cannes 2022 and that is none other than Park Chan-wook. He won the awards for Best Director for his film Decision To Leave. The film is about a detective falling in love with one of the suspects in a murder. Park Chan-wook is only the second Korean director to win this award after Im Kwon-taek for his film Chihwaseon.
Park Chan-wook’s Oldboy had won Grand Prix Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 2003, while his other film Thirst had won the Jury Prize in 2009.
