MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 22 Recap: This Pressure Test is a Memory Game

In the last episode of MasterChef Australia Season 14, we saw Minoli and Sarah from the Favourites and Harry and Jenn from the Fans land up at the bottom. This brings us to MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 22’s pressure test. The episode is titled ‘Pressure Test: Alla Wolf-Tasker’s Summer Cucu Murray Cod’. The runtime for the episode is 49 minutes.

As the name suggests, legendary Alla Wolf-Tasker is at the task setting end of this pressure test and the contestants are going to have to replicate her summer cucumbers and Murray cod dish. However, there is a catch as this pressure test seems to be testing the contestants’ memories too.

– MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 22 Recap Contains Mild Spoilers –

At the beginning of MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 22, we see our four contestants who are going to be appearing for the pressure test head to Lake Daylesford, which is located in the countryside. Here, the cooks are greeted by Jock along with Alla. They are soon informed that Alla’s dish is what they are set to replicate but, from memory. We see Alla cook her summer cucumbers and Murray cod in front of the contestants while giving out instructions and details for her cooking.

The contestants are not provided with any recipe or pen or paper to note Alla’s instructions down. They are going to have to learn from Alla’s verbal instructions, head back to the MasterChef kitchen and make the dish by retaining whatever information they can from the demo. This scares the contestants as they not only have to remember the cooking steps but also, the appropriate temperatures and minute, fine details that make the dish at hand stand out.

After the demonstration and, tasting of the dish they are going to have to replicate, the cooks head to their home centre to get cooking. In the MasterChef kitchen, the cooks are given 90 minutes to reproduce the dish. We see Jenn and Minoli jotting down points at the start of the challenge to make sure they are right on queue. Whereas Harry gets down to cooking the dish right away. Harry is the only one with a pin in this pressure test.

We see the contestants panic but also find their balance while cooking in the competition. Soon enough we see Harry play her pin after she finds out in the final moments of the challenge that her cod isn’t exactly the way it should be. With 90 seconds left on the clock, we see Minoli struggling to put the dish on her plate as she is running behind schedule. The finished dish by Minoli is unfortunately incomplete and, she breaks down.

When the tasting starts, Jenn’s dish is the first one to be presented. Although the plating isn’t as beautiful as Alla’s dish, Jenn’s replication is fantastically received by the judges. Minoli brings her plate in next which lacks the noodles and, she is visibly upset and broken. The dish has overcooked fish, the oil isn’t strained and the blips bring about a negative response to the dish. Lastly, it is Sarah’s dish which comes out as butchery and not exactly perfect, although it has some good elements.

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 22: Who Leaves the MasterChef Kitchen?

It is yet another heartbreaking elimination in the MasterChef kitchen. Minoli from the Favourites gets eliminated in this pressure test. Following her elimination, Minoli took to her Instagram account and shared a post with the caption: “The hardest part about today wasn’t the thought of going home, it was serving food I wasn’t proud of to Alla, Andy, Jock and Mel. It was a timely reminder that life can sometimes throw a curveball but it’s what you do afterwards that counts. @masterchefau set me up to take on another challenge… my new restaurant @ellabyminoli and I am nervous, excited, and ready for it!

Thank you to everyone that has supported me both on and off the screen, the amazing messages sharing your stories and thoughts, and all the fun interactions I’ve had with you through my Insta. I love it all! Thank you @fooderati @andyallencooks and @zonfrillo for being the most amazing mentors. You taught me to back myself and it’s changed my perspective on life. So bloody grateful for that. I hope to see you all up at @ellabyminoli soon so I can feed you. Just no judging panel please.. ???? Tonight I’m going to rest, relax and eat 2-minute noodles with joy, and get ready to watch the rest of the season from my comfy couch. ????”
