The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 7 Overview
The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 or Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 2 is an action, adventure, drama, fantasy, and most importantly, isekai anime that serves as the sequel to its highly acclaimed and fan favourite Season 1 that aired in 2019. The series is based upon a light novel written by Yusagi Aneko and illustrated by Minami Seira. You can read our review of the previous episode of the show right here.
The show’s second season is being adapted into anime by Studio Kinema Citrus, the same studio behind the show’s first season, and other highly acclaimed anime such as Made in Abyss and Barakamon. This season is directed by Masato Jinbo, an industry veteran who also directed shows such as Chaos Child and Restaurant to Another World. This episode of the show is also referred to as Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari Season 2 Episode 7.

The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 7 Review- A Fresh Restart
Exactly as you would expect from a show out of ideas, Shield Hero opted to get out of the mess that it had created by ending it all unceremoniously and entering a new world altogether. It was a world very far away from the one Naofumi just came from, but somewhat closer to the one he originally belonged to. It was a world very much like his own, with lush jungles and a tense atmosphere, alongside four cardinal heroes he knew next to nothing about.

The show managed to deliver the best episode of this entire season here, but to do it required it to give up everything that we had seen and learnt in the show so far. The events of this episode seem barely related to what happened in the first half of the show, and seemingly for a good reason. It was a horrendous arc, one that did no favours for anyone. It didn’t even have the courage to end properly, as its long-running effects will be faced a long time from now. The show did need to recover if it hoped to have any future beyond this season and try to recover, and it did.
It introduced a new world, one where our gang sans Filo is trapped for seemingly all of eternity. We don’t get a word on how our heroes got to be there or how come they happened to get stuck into a place where almost no one can go in or out of. Oh well, if everything not getting explained is going to be a thing, I’d rather it happen the way this did- to end a particularly bad section of the show to get access to a new one. Going back to the group’s beginnings was a nice little nostalgia trip and one the show dipped into because it knows how popular and useful it was.

There was a new character introduced in this episode, who the show christened Kizuna. She was an interesting character that managed to leave a lot of impact in her small moment in the sun. Her tale was a sad one, the kind Shield Hero is the best at portraying. While spending time with Kizuna in any manner is a pleasant experience, the show’s way of going about it was far from it. Not just that, but a conflict that could have taken multiple episodes to solve took 90 seconds because the writers felt like Naofumi needed to be more impressive than he already was.
Tate no Yuusha Season 2 Episode 7 was a great watch, and a listen, as Kevin Penkin was heard working his tunes again in this isekai. He has the talent of making anything sound extremely sinister and foreboding, which works in an episode like this. The animation was also decent. Overall, going back to its roots helped the show a lot by lot, as it was able to focus on what made it good in the first place. There is still the danger of it regressing again as it did once before. We have to take the good with the bad.
Verdict
The Rising Of The Shield Hero Season 2 Episode 7 was a great comeback by the show, which was lagging behind this entire season. Let’s hope it can maintain this momentum in the later episodes!
