Candy Episode 2 is out now. Created by Nick Antosca and Robin Veith, the miniseries features Jessica Biel in the titular role along with Melanie Lynskey as Betty Gore, Pablo Schreiber as Allan Gore and Timothy Simons as Pat Montgomery. The series recounts the murder of Betty Gore and, the subsequent trial where the titular character was seen as the killer.
The series consists of 5 episodes which will make up for a 5-night event on Hulu, with one episode released every day. The runtime for the second episode is 48 minutes.

Candy Episode 2: Happy Wife, Happy Life
Candy Episode 2 starts two years before the murder of Betty Gore took place and, takes us deeper into the lives of Candy and Betty. We see our titular character living a seemingly perfect life in front of her peers but, behind closed doors, the spice in her marriage is missing. She starts to crave it even more when the pastor of her church, who also happens to be her very close friend gets divorced and, starts seeing a new man. The electricity of newfound love and lust jeopardises Candy’s mind and starves for pleasure from her husband, Pat.
On the other hand, Betty is seemingly dishevelled. Clearly, Betty has anger management issues and, we see her crave attention from her husband, Allan, who is always travelling. Betty even goes on to foster a child, albeit to cure her loneliness but, things surely don’t go as planned. With both the husbands lacking the needful intimate and physical presence in their marriages, the wives are left looking out for alternatives. Who reaches where and, crosses what lines is what lies tied in the second episode of Hulu’s Candy.
Candy Episode 2 stalls us. It does not take us to the aftermath of the killing we witnessed in the first episode but, provides us with a prequel, a context, for the events that happen later on. It is a pleasant surprise to see Melanie Lynskey share the spotlight in this episode with Biel. Usually seen portraying timid but strong roles, Lynskey has perfectly absorbed the character of being a conflicted and confused suburban wife riddled with loneliness that only triggers some unresolved anger that rests in her heart.

Biel is lustful. We see her craving, and wanting more. And, in the final minutes of this episode, we see her desperation take over but, never overshadowing her polite personality, which might just be the trademark of the character the actor is responsible for essaying. By the end of the second episode, the audiences get what they are looking for- a confession, in fact, two in this pod but, the air of anticipation is kept intact by providing no further justification for the confession and, making us all wait for what happens next.
Candy Episode 2: Final Thoughts
This series is going for a win-win situation. It has taken all the hot and real topics of lives- love, lust, loneliness, infidelity and murder and, wrapped them all in one creating a real American horror story that people are excited to learn about more. And, not simply from the pages of news reports but, in actors portraying the real-life characters and telling the story of one of the coldest cases ever.
The only drawback by far in this show is the haphazard edits and cuts which aren’t always the smoothest, leaving us often with a blank screen for a second. At times, believe it or not, it is a distraction. Especially, when you are completely invested in a story to know more.
