Star Wars Visions Review: Stellar Anime Takes Us to a Galaxy Far Far Away

Star Wars Visions, aka Star Wars: Visions, is now streaming on Disney+. Six Japanese animation studios produced the Japanese animated series – Kamikaze Douga, Twin Engine, Trigger, Kinema Citrus, Production I.G, and Science SARU. There is a total of nine episodes of 15-25 minutes each. The episodes are available in Japanese and dubbed in English, too (with subtitles).

The synopsis reads – An animated anthology celebrating Star Wars through the lens of the world’s best anime creators.

Star Wars: Visions Review Contains Mild Spoilers

Imagine a galaxy far, far away, where someone with a red lightsaber is a protector Or a world without lightsabers? Disney+ has presented us with some exciting and riveting tales through Star Wars: Visions. The credit goes to the Japanese animation studios and the crew that worked hard to give life to such stories, which has no relation to the Star Wars movies or films we’ve seen so far.

I am not going to give any direct spoiler in my Star Wars: Visions Review. So the only best way to convince you all to watch the show is to highlight what I loved the most. Talking about episodes, my favourite episodes from the series are The Duel (Kamikaze Douga), Tatooine Rhapsody (Studio Colorido), The Village Bride (Kinema Citrus), The Ninth Jedi (Production I.G) and T0-B1 (Science SARU). Just like these studios, the animation by Trigger Studios is also top-notch. Believe me, every episode is worth your time and presents a fascinating story which we really missed in the last few years (wrt. movies).

The colour palette, the choreography for the action scenes, dialogues, and the background music blends well together. The characters in focus have depth, and the villains pose a sensible threat. The droids also have a prominent role in the series, and one of them also becomes a Jedi, and you’ll fall in love with it. We’ve seen George Lucas and Dave Filoni’s vision for the franchise so far, and some worked, and some didn’t quite sit with us. I’m glad the franchise decided to give some amazing Japanese writers and directors a chance to tell their version, with characters that originate and reflect their fighting style and culture.

Star Wars Visions Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, the latest SW series is worth watching. The studios have done an incredible job, and the voice acting is brilliant too. The action sequences are plenty, we are treated with good thrilling elements, and the animation is stellar. I may have mentioned my favourite episodes above, but each of them deserves your attention, as you may never know what you might end up liking. Go, explore the stories from different parts of the galaxy with a different perspective.

Star Wars: Vision is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

May the force be with you!

KATSEYE’s “Unloveu” visualizer captures the emotional aftermath of a breakup through monochromatic visuals, large empty spaces, a chessboard with a single player, and a massive mirror. It reflects on unresolved hurt, emotional vulnerability, and learning to move on while “unloving” someone you once loved.
