Shiny_Flakes: The Teenage Drug Lord Review

If you’ve watched How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) and enjoyed it, then Shiny_Flakes: The Teenage Drug Lord is going to be right up your alley. Netflix has been really consistent with the documentaries that it comes out with, and Shiny_Flakes: The Teenage Drug Lord is interesting as all heck.

In this Netflix documentary, we follow Maximilian Schmidt as he takes us on a ride to tell us how he sold drugs from his parents’ home. The guy, at age 19, created a drug empire, sitting in his childhood bedroom, and sold around 4.1 million euros worth of drugs in 14 months. The case was sensational in Germany, and the authorities have yet to find most of the money.

Max was known as Shiny Flakes online, and thus the name of the documentary. I was honestly quite shocked by this documentary. Let’s face it – selling drugs is a serious crime all over the world. However, Max comes off as someone who’s actually very proud of his accomplishments, if you can call it that. He isn’t ashamed or remorseful and jokes that his bedroom is bigger than a jail cell.

It’s quite great watching him talk about it, and you can’t help but have a little battle inside you. You want to be angry at this (then) young teenager for doing what he did, but you can’t help but be drawn to his charms. It’s true – Max S. is charming as heck and comes off as intelligent and magnetic. And it’s not just his charms; the way he brought up the empire, thought things through and delivered excellent customer service (well, you know) is quite a thing to watch!

However, in spite of all the charms, you cannot help but understand through Shiny Flakes: The Teenage Drug Lord that Max is dangerous. The documentary provides an expert who talks about this in depth, so I won’t go into it here, but I was baffled as to how much he did in a small amount of time. Was it the money that drove him? It’s common knowledge that the drug business comes with a lot of money.

It’s probably not the money, though. Some people just get a kick out of feeling invincible, like no one can ever catch them. And that is where they screw up – they get in way over their heads. This is exactly what happened to Max. He got into it too deep, and before long, he was caught. His arrogance is astonishing, though. Shiny_Flakes: The Teenage Drug Lord does some nifty things with its documentary-style; I don’t want to spoil anything, so this one should be a must-watch if you like these sorts of things.

Shiny_Flakes: The Teenage Drug Lord is a shocking watch, not only to understand how easy it is to get into the drug business, but also how Max pulled it off. You’d think that it’d require multiple people to pull this off. But it’s shocking how a teenager managed all of this for as long as he did, which makes the story extraordinary. It’s a good watch and comes highly recommended if you enjoy documentaries.
