We The People, a musical animated series, is now out on Netflix. Created and written by Chris Nee, the series is directed by Benjy Brooke, Everett Downing Jr, Trisha Gum, Jorge R Gutierrez, Daron Nefcy, Peter Ramsey, Tim Rauch, Kendra Ryan, Victoria Vincent and Mabel Ye. To celebrate the eve of the Fourth of July, the makers have released ten episodes of 4-5 minutes each.
Michelle Obama and Barack Obama are the executive producers of We The People. Many talented artists like Brandi Carlile, Cordae, Andra Day, Amanda Gorman, H.E.R, Kyle, Adam Lambert, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Janelle Monáe and Bebe Rexha have lent their voices for different songs.
We The People Netflix plot is described as – “Learn the basics of rights and citizenship with upbeat songs by popular artists like Janelle Monae, H.E.R, Adam Lambert, Brandi Carlile and more.” On the occasion of the United States of America’s Declaration of Independence day, the Obamas want Americans to know their rights, laws and responsibilities.
About the series, Michelle Obama shared, “I can’t wait for you all to see We The People! This Higher Ground project is filled with the songs and the heart of so many of our favorite artists—but even more, it’s a rallying cry for a rising generation that’s ready to take on the world. Watch it on @Netflix on July 4!”
Barack Obama had written, “Michelle and I are excited to share our latest show from Higher Ground: We The People. Some of our favorite artists got together with amazing animators to remix civics—and the result is a lot better than what we had in school.”
We The People Review: In-Depth Analysis
Each episode of We The People is like a civics lesson but taught with catchy music and stunning visuals. The makers inform people about The Bill of Rights, how and why to do taxes, the difference between Federal Vs State Power, Immigration and more. My favourite episode is a family’s pet telling them about the importance of taxes.

As an Indian who is curious to know about the USA, the series came across as insightful. One might believe understanding how one of the biggest powers in the world functions must be complicated. But Netflix’s We The People made it easy. It’s good civics learning for kids with a visual treat of animation with the language and terms that are easy to understand. It was good of the makers to use songs and rap to help viewers understand what makes the USA what it is!
We The People Review: Is it worth watching?
Overall, the animated series tells a lot in less time. It’s a great source of learning and entertainment that celebrates the USA. It’s a series families can enjoy together while munching on hot dogs, burgers, baked beans, potato salad or chips.
