Lupin Part 2 starring Omar Sy, Ludivine Sagnier, Etan Simon, Fargass Assandé, Antoine Gouy, Hervé Pierre, Clotilde Hesme, Soufiane Guerrab, Vincent Garanger and Adama Niane released on Netflix today. The French mystery thriller is written by George Kay and François Uzan and the episodes of part 2 were directed by Ludovic Bernard and Hugo Gélin.
Just like season 1, Lupin Season 2 had five episodes of 40-45 minutes each. It all started when Assane Diop (Omar Sy) steals a diamond necklace to avenge Hubert Pellegrini (Hervé Pierre). When Diop was a teenager, his father, Babakar Diop (Fargass Assandé), used to work as a servant for Pellegrini. One day, Pellegrini accused Diop of stealing the same necklace from their house and sent him to prison. Babakar killed himself in prison, and 25 years later, Assane is still searching for the answers. He knows that his father would never steal anything.
Everyone loved Lupin Season 1 because the lead character in Netflix’s thriller has a sensible motive. He doesn’t intend to harm anyone and only seeks answers. In the last episode of part 1, Diop takes Claire (Ludivine Sagnier) and his son Raoul on a train trip to a festival at Étretat. As it is Raoul’s birthday, Diop wanted to make it memorable. However, tragedy knocks on his door when Leonard (Adama Niane) finds them and kidnaps his son.
Lupin Part 2 starts with Assane and Detective Youssef Guedira (Soufiane Guerrab) following Leonard together in the car. Guedira is now aware that Assane conducted the heist, so he pretends to be a common man in front of him. But Diop is always ahead in his game, and even in the tense moment of searching for his son, he finds out that Guedira is a cop. But his focus is rescuing Raoul from Leonard.
The first episode of Lupin Season 2 makes you hold your breath. But that’s just the beginning of whatever comes ahead. Hubert Pellegrini is leaving no chance to harm Assane Diop. In season 2, we see how greedy and pathetic Pellegrini is and will go to any extent to get his work done and save his a$$. But always remember, Lupin is always ten steps ahead of his enemies.

Without revealing any spoiler in my Lupin Part 2 review, I would like to mention that Assane and his best friend Benjamin (Antoine Gouy) will fascinate you a lot more this time. Their plans, intelligence, observant nature and wit will keep you glued to the screen. Along with their present-day thrilling adventures, we also get to see flashbacks of notorious moments during their school days.
People love the Netflix thriller not only because it is a twisted and gripping story but also because it sheds light on racism in France. You often wonder why no one notices the most wanted man Assane Diop casually strolling with them on the streets. That’s because some white people are so full of themselves that they don’t care to notice a Black person among them. In Lupin Part 2, we will see several incidents of racism towards Assane and Leonard.
There couldn’t have been a better way to proceed the story further after how it ended in season 1. Omar Sy makes you fall in love with Assane Diop all over again with his charm, killer smile and smooth moves, aka plans. Actors Ludivine Sagnier, Etan Simon, Antoine Gouy, Hervé Pierre, Clotilde Hesme, Soufiane Guerrab played their part well. Despite having so much to show in the latest season in a non-linear narrative, the screenplay doesn’t get messy. Every episode ends with a bang, and you are eager to know what’s next.
Lupin Part 2: Is it worth watching?
Overall, the Netflix heist thriller is worth watching as it’s charming, terrific and highly entertaining. It’s a mixed bag of good drama, action, humour, suspense and brilliant performances. The ending will leave a smile on your face.
