Netflix’s Sexify Review: A Search For Female Orgasm

Someone has rightly said, “A woman’s body is like a violin and all, and that it takes a terrific musician to play it right.” In the Netflix series Sexify, the makers try to explore how to seek this pleasure for women. Directed by Kalina Alabrudzinska and Piotr Domalewski, the Polish comedy drama stars Sandra Drzymalska, Aleksandra Skraba, and Maria Sobocinska. Is it worth watch? Read on.

In the Netflix series, three college girls, namely Natalia (Aleksandra Skraba), Paulina (Maria Sobocinska) and Monika (Sandra Drzymalska), decide to make an application called Sexify for their graduation project. The app has questions and preferences for women that will help them and their partner to understand their bodies and gain pleasure. But we live in a world where sex is still considered taboo and female pleasure is still a myth for most people. So the trio’s journey is full of challenges and dirty stares!

We already have Sex Education on Netflix, one of the best series explaining everything about the male and female body. But in that series, Dr Jean F. Milburn (Gillian Anderson) is a sex therapist who mostly guides these lost teenagers as they try to understand the complexity of sex and their bodies. Sexify, however, is completely different from Sex Education.

In Sexify, these three girls in their early 20s trying to figure out the “mystery” of female orgasm by themselves. Natalia is super-competitive and wants to be at the top. Paulina has issues with her relationship and thinks she’s sinning when she sleeps with her boyfriend. She has no clue what female pleasure is all about. Monika belongs to a rich family but doesn’t have a good relationship with her parents and indulges in sex. But as they work on creating the Sexify app, the girls also figure out their true self, wants, and needs (not just sexually).

Directors Kalina Alabrudzinska and Piotr Domalewski have gone too bold. Even the main background music they’ve used has a woman moaning loudly. For the research purpose of her app, Natalia lets couples have sex in her dorm room to capture their reaction and use the data. So expect a lot of nudity and sex scenes in the series. This is every bit NSFW series.

In 8 episodes of approximately 50 minutes each, we see the three girls struggling to build their app. The series has good humour, and their friendship and self-discovery keep you hooked. It’s a fun show that doesn’t go too deep with its subject of female pleasure. It doesn’t try to preach or promise to be a game-changer with its concept, which works in its favour. The last episode is full of drama and quite typical. Actors Sandra Drzymalska, Aleksandra Skraba, and Maria Sobocinska have given a good performance. Their friendship chemistry is delightful.

Sexify: Is it worth it?

Overall, Sexify is nothing like Sex Education. But it’s not bad. The lead characters are doing their best to find the female orgasm and they succeed. The series tells you how technology can help one understand their wants and desires, even with physical pleasure. It’s a good one-time watch.

Sexify is currently streaming on Netflix.
