Some food shows have a special place in the heart. MasterChef is one such cooking game show that’s popular in different countries with their own versions. But nothing comes closer to the Australian series. On April 19, MasterChef Australia Season 13 started airing, and food lovers have found something to hold on to amid the pandemic.
The three lovely judges Andy Allen, Melissa Leong, and Jock Zonfrillo, have returned to MasterChef Australia Season 13 to select the best cook among the many amazing home cooks. This is the second time they are judging the show. So just like the previous seasons, expect a lot of diversity in terms of food and representation.
Episode 1 and 2 showed us the auditions of some talented home cooks serving the judges their best dishes. From so many tempting dishes, 24 won their heart and tummy and made it to the show. The audition rounds make you witness the love and admiration people in Australia have for this show. They are passionate about cooking and would go to any length and give their best to be a part of it.
The 24 contestants of MasterChef Australia Season 13 are between the age group of 19-40. People from different professions such as architect, lawyer, tattoo artist, kindergarten teacher, pharmacist, etc., are a part of the competition this time. And well, all of them are wonderful cooks, and it’s hard to pick one favourite currently.
In the third episode, season 12 winner Emelia Jackson comes a surprise guest for the Mystery Box Challenge. Our judges, Andy, Melissa and Jock, reveal that the 24 cooks have to fight for three immunity pins if they succeed to impress them with their dishes. However, this year’s immunity pin rules are completely different from everything we have seen for the past 12 seasons.
For MasterChef Australia Season 13, these three will be the only immunity pins the contestants can win. Whoever wins them can use them during any one elimination challenge till the end. Another big change is that the immunity pin holder can even back out when things go wrong to save themselves from elimination in the middle of cooking a dish. Elise Pulbrook, Therese Lum and Wynona Davies win the immunity pins and are already the Top 3 contestants.
In MasterChef Australia season 13, episode 4, we see the remaining 21 contestants going into elimination. The judges have given them two of the most versatile ingredients for the elimination round – chicken and eggs. It was my favourite episode because I saw some people excelling in their cooks and others struggling to put a dish on their plate. Sadly, contestant Trent Vu had to bid goodbye to the show first.
MasterChef Australia Season 13: Is it worth it?
Overall, MasterChef Australia Season 13 is packed with lots of flavours – excitement, delicacies, versatility, creativity, and enthusiasm. Andy Allen, Melissa Leong, and Jock Zonfrillo give the right kind of judgement and encourage the contestants devoted to winning the show.
