Netflix’s Dolly Parton: A MusiCares Tribute Review: We Love You, Dolly!

Dolly Parton: A MusiCares Tribute premiered on 7th April 2021 on Netflix. The series adds another show to Netflix’s collection of shows by the celebrated legendary singer, songwriter, and philanthropist Dolly Parton.

“In a star-studded evening of music and memories, a community of iconic performers honor Dolly Parton as the MusiCares Person of the Year.”

Parton and Her Legacy

Dolly Parton: A MusiCares Tribute was shot in 2019 when the world was a Covid free place. Every year MusiCares, the non-profit wing of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, bestows Person of the Year honour to an artist, and in 2019, Dolly Parton became the first country artist to receive this honour. To celebrate the honour, the concert features various artists like Miley Cyrus (Parton’s goddaughter), Shawn Mendes, Pink, Leon Bridges, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt, Brandi Carlile, Mavis Staples, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood come along and perform songs by Parton.

Undeniably, Dolly Parton has some beautiful songs that stay with you for a long time and the 55-minute long show embraces the same. It is beautiful to see how everyone appreciates her contribution. Each and every artist that performs here add their element to the song making the show a wonderful watch. The concert made me add a lot of Parton’s songs to my playlist then and there and not even once does it dip!

Dolly Parton: A MusiCares Tribute

For a 55-minute long show that is all about Parton, it feels authentic and not sugar-coated with excessive talks about how great a person she is. The evening ends with Dolly Parton’s 1968 hit “Coat of Many Colors,” performed by none other than Parton herself, accompanied on acoustic guitar by Linda Perry of 4 Non-Blondes fame. It is just engaging and will bring a smile to your face as the show radiates music, respect, and appreciation!

If you are not a Parton fan, I highly suggest you watch this show and listen to Parton’s work. They are beautiful, meaningful, and soothing and it’s a rare combination.
