Sexual content, to date, is a major taboo in the South Indian film industry. Though some steamy Tamil movies have been produced in the last few decades, they weren’t welcomed well. In fact, some faced heavy criticism that led to the downfall of certain actors. Despite that, many directors are still trying to show adult art by adding comedy and even a touch of Horror.
Truth be told, most of the sexy Tamil movies don’t even include a sex scene where the actors are naked. Usually, they move under the sheet with some dramatic music running in the background. Irrespective of this, the Tamil viewers still don’t agree with these romantic or comedy flicks with sexual content.
That said, here are some steamy Tamil movies that became the talk of the town for their so-called obscene scenes which killed some actors’ careers.
8 Steamy Tamil Movies
Manmadhan – 2004
Starring STR Simbu in his late 20s, Manmadhan follows the story of a twin brother, Madhan, who kills unloyal women to avenge his brother’s death (he died by suicide after getting cheated). Madhan, however, falls in love with a genuine girl but due to his past, he rejects her. Most of the scenes are Madhan having sex with the ladies before killing them.
This movie actually is loved by many youngsters even today but back when it was released, many grown-ups criticised it for promoting a serial killer character. Somehow what the adults protested for is right. Nevertheless, the movie is still airing on many television channels.
Vallavan – 2006
This movie of Simbu caused him his major downfall. Starring alongside Nayanthara, both of them fell in love and dated in real life. But soon after that, they split up, which invited media pressure. Many viewers despised the actors for acting in intimate scenes and labelled their real-life relationship as a PR stunt.

After Vallavan, most of Simbu’s movies didn’t work and he took a huge break from the movie industry. One iconic song from this flick Loosu Penne which was sung by Simbu is the Tamil audience’s break-up anthem.
New – 2004
The movie New is the best example of a chaotic plotline with sex content here and there. The film is about a small boy Pappu who is transformed into a grown man by a scientist. Due to a mishap, Pappu will remain a child in the daytime and a man during the night. He needs to toggle between the life of a child and a husband.

Back when it was released people took the movie in a funny way but thinking about it now, it is one of the most terrible movies that sexualised a child. Both S J Suryah and Simran faced backlashes from the audience and boom, the actress then never came back as a main lead in movies.
Evanukku Engeyo Matcham Irukku – 2018
Actor Vimal was doing fine acting in comedy films that had a decent plot. Something seriously made him go for an adult movie and he hasn’t been seen after that, ever. Evanukku Engeyo Matcham Irukku is a dumb flick about a horny NRI girl, a thug, a cop, etc. The director simply wanted a sex-loaded film than to convey a good story to the public.
Irandam Kuththu – 2020
Irandam Kuththu is the second movie of the Iruttu Arayil Murattu Kuththu series. When two couples go to Bangkok for a vacation, the place they stay at seems to be haunted by a spirit who wants to have sex with the men. Uhm, yes. The movie perplexed the viewers due to its storyline and the obscene content.
Adult Horror comedies rarely work and this movie flopped big time. In fact, none of the actors’ names stood out. If you’re in for some hot stuff, you can stream it.
Torchlight – 2018
Torchlight deserved viewership but only a handful of people know about this movie. Actress Sadha gave a comeback to the Tamil cinema through this movie where she acts as a sex worker who wants to save her husband’s life. The sexual scenes are quite sad to watch because the different men that Sadha faces tend to be violent, weird and creepy.
Though this movie is steamy it has a good message which the viewers should empathise and learn from. Sadly, once again, Sadha vanished from the industry after this movie flopped.
Bachelor – 2021
It really confuses me when music directors become actors. G V Prakash is an excellent music producer who has won national awards. When he chose to act, his fans were quite fine with it but somehow he went for adult films that dragged his reputation down. In this movie, two colleagues decide to live together and have a nice sexual relationship until the girl gets pregnant. That’s pretty much the story of this flick.
Bachelor is yet another movie that worked well only due to the songs he composed for the flick. Apart from that, this is purely a film with romantic sexual scenes that go in vain.
Adhitya Varma – 2019
Adhitya Varma, the Tamil remake of the Telugu movie Arjun Reddy is the debut flick of Chiyaan Vikram’s son Dhruv Vikram. Though his acting was on point, re-watching the same movie in different languages didn’t make any sense. Watching Dhruv in bed scenes with co-actor Banita Sandhu, the tamil viewers were furious with actor Chiyaan for allowing his son to do that.
Additionally, Dhruv’s potential was limited to toxic masculinity and he pretty much only acted in a few movies that too as a villain.
