8 Actors Who Should Win Oscars 2023: Michelle Yeoh, Tom Cruise and Others

It’s that time of the year when we finally compile the list of Actors Who Should Win Oscars 2023, only to get a high setback from the classic Academy Snub. Even though there is nothing certain about the final picks of the year, there is always a little buzz around the most moving performances. This is why, here’s a list of the actors that deserve to win the golden trophy, irrespective of their gender or nomination criteria.

Check Out 8 Actors Who Should Win Oscars 2023

Tom Cruise (Top Gun Maverick)

When it comes to Tom Cruise getting snubbed for his hard-hitting hardcore cinema performance, the list is painfully long. In my opinion, the last action superstar of our generation deserved a nod for Mission Impossible Fallout, which was one of the most cinematically brilliant releases of the year. However, the stereotype of treating action hits with critical prejudice is something that needs to stop.

With Top Gun Maverick, Tom Cruise not only revived cinema but also reinstated the magic of movies. Yes, his entire performance was based on leading hero cliches, but there is nobody in the entire acting fraternity, that comes close to building a rooting character arc like Tom Cruise. And for that reason alone, I believe it’s a sin to hand him out the trophy this year. You can still catch the magnum opus in theatres (re-released) until it streams on Paramount Plus, at the end of this month.

Cate Blanchett (Tár)

Besides being one of the most cinematically powerful films of the year, Tár also manages to give us an enthralling Cate Blanchett portrayal. Recently, the critically acclaimed actress also won the award for best actress at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, which has pretty much stamped her OSCARS 2023 nomination.

The trailer of the film alone will leave you with the illustrious breakdown of Blanchett’s role, followed by her magnetic attempt to bring the troubled composer to life. Moreover, it’s a tale of rise and fall, where Cate Blanchett herself feels like a musical note of perfection. You can watch the film Mubi.

Austin Butler (Elvis)

It’s pretty well known that OSCARS have a slight bias for biographical performances, that reinvents the subject matter on the celluloid. And One such actor that is already making the rounds for this is Austin Butler, in his pitch-perfect role of musical icon Elvis. According to a number of critics, the actors absorbed the very essence of the singing phenomenon and blurred the line between acting and reality.

Much of the credit goes to the visionary Baz Luhrmann and his directorial genius, for shaping the feature film. And for replicating the style and aura of Elvis. Moreover, there is also no denying that Austin Butler can do a Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) this year. You can stream the film on Amazon Prime Video.

Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once)

Michelle Yeoh and her electrifying portrayal of a Chinese immigrant, who lands herself in a series of bizarre adventures are one of the finest and most refreshing outcomes of the year. So much so, that this film by The Daniels not only became a box-office success but also received universal acclaim.

Even though Michelle Yeoh’s powerfully packed role should land him that golden trophy, the recent trend of OSCARS snub is a matter of great concern. As a fan of this ridiculously amazing original flick, I can only hope for the best. You can stream the film on Hulu.

Brendan Fraser (The Whale)

If there was an award for the most talked about film, then Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale would have been a sure-shot winner. The grand and critically acclaimed return of Brendan Fraser has received all the praise and well wishes (from his fans), followed by an OSCARS buzz right from the start. Now, it’s about time that the Academy officially confirms that buzz into a nomination.

In terms of winning the award, Fraser might be the fan favourite (right after Tom Cruise) but faces tough competition from little the already-filled lineup of actors. However, nobody can predict the final outcome of the enigmatic golden trophy. You can watch the film in theatres.

Hugh Jackman (The Son)

The last time Hugh Jackman got nominated for the golden trophy, was for the musical drama Les Misérables, released in the year 2012. Since then, the Wolverine fame Australian actor has done so many amazing flicks but hasn’t come close to the accolade (It’s a shame that he was not nominated for Logan).

Now, with Florian Zeller’s The Son, Hugh Jackman has come close to the opportunity with an incredibly moving performance. You can stream the drama film on Hulu Plus.

Colin Farrell (The Banshees of Inisherin)

Colin Farell’s brilliantly capturing portrayal with a comical twist is already a critic’s darling this year. Notably, the actor won the top prize at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards this year and is already regarded as a potential winner of the award.

Along with the Comedy drama, Farell also stole the show with his complete transforming role of the Penguin, in Matt Reeves’s The Batman. Which just adds more momentum to his winning route. You can stream the film on HBO.

Margot Robbie (Babylon)

Damien Chazelle’s take on the inception of wild Hollywood is definitely going to be a massive treat this year. Packed with an ensemble of popular actors, the film is widely making noise for its astonishing epic story. Plus, the leading actress Margot Robbie has become one of the most prominent actresses to win the golden trophy this year.

The Australian actress did come close to the award, with the groundbreaking I,Tonya. But this will be the first time she has all the reasons to claim the accolade. You can watch her new film in the Theaters.
