When it comes to South Korean dramas or movies, most of the viewers love the wonderful landscape and the actors who look too good to be human. Apart from this, the Korean film industry is also known for its erotic hits featuring such beautiful actors. While the genre always impresses viewers with its artistic representation, there are certain disturbing steamy Korean movies that shouldn’t have been allowed on the big screen.
Controversial erotic movies are a big no-no but still, if they make sense (like political issues), the viewers usually let it pass. But when such controversial movies have major disturbing concepts, then that’s an issue. Falling under the second category, certain Korean erotic movies in the past worked well for certain viewers despite holding so many debatable aspects like Pedophilia. Here are such steamy Korean movies that will give you the creep.
Trigger Warning: Mentions of sexual assault, suicide, violence, etc., are present in this article.
7 Disturbing Steamy Korean Movies
A Muse – 2012
Would you believe that the sweet innocent girl from the series Goblin acted in an erotic movie and was fantasised by a 70 and a 30-year-old man? Yes, the then-21-year-old actress Kim Go-eun went completely naked in a plot where a 70-year-old poet/teacher and his 30-year-old student fall madly in love with a 17-year-old girl. The older man fantasises about sex with her while his student actually makes love with her.
While many viewers termed this movie, artistic, the amount of paedophilia normalisation gives me icks. Firstly, even if the actress was 21 years old, seeing her being inappropriately touched by an old guy is traumatising. Also, it makes me believe that Go-eun has gone through worse in the Korean film industry to get to the position she is in now. Poor girl.
Perfect Partner – 2011
This movie is based on a teacher-student romance, which isn’t a bad thing (unless the age difference is terrible). Well, almost everything about Perfect Partner is negative. Yes, there is this huge age gap between the main leads, but what’s worse is the connection they all share. The movie follows the story of a professor and his son. The professor falls in love with his student, and the son falls for his teacher. The father’s younger girlfriend is the daughter of his son’s elder girlfriend. Oh God, what nonsense is this?

The erotic scenes—I couldn’t resist laughing. Knowing that the father and son duo is literally hooking up with a mother-daughter duo killed my vibe. Again, how did the Korean viewers even permit this movie?
The Housemaid – 2010
Here’s another famous actress from the top hits like Crash Course in Romance and Kill Boksoon starring in an erotic movie that has the most controversial and disturbing ending. As the title suggests, the movie shows the housemaid’s affair with her rich owner. He’s married and has a pregnant wife, yet allured by the maid, and he risks everything. When the truth comes out, he acts selfishly, causing the maid severe harm.
To get back at him, she sacrifices herself in the most creepy way that ends up traumatising the entire family for years, including the children. The movie gave me chills, and I still don’t understand why a decade back, creators imagined such erotic plotlines. For real, if we could get an insight into the director’s mind, we probably end up psychologically messed up.

A Good Lawyer’s Wife – 2003
A fantastic lawyer and his housewife aren’t feeling okay with their sexual life. So they start having affairs. While this is realistic, the creators added a touch of paedophilia once again. The lawyer has sex with a young girl while his housewife sleeps with her neighbour, a teenager. What’s terrible in this movie is that the housewife’s father-in-law and mother-in-law also have affairs. Can we for real talk about genuine romance in erotic movies, please?

The Isle – 2000
Everything about this movie is rats. When a young man decides to end his life, his caretaker (she is mute) helps him out of his despair. The couple then spices up through a sadomasochistic relationship which ends up in murder and further complications. Their love story turns so deadly that would make one believe that the girl should have either walked away after saving him or should have let him do his business. If you’re planning to watch this movie, we warn you, certain gore scenes, especially the ones using a fish hook, might cause distress.

Oasis – 2002
At first sight, the movie might look like a beautiful genuine love story between a man with an intellectual disability and a woman affected by palsy, but when you uncover how they both started their relationship, you’ll be concerned. Apparently, the male lead rapes the woman, and that’s how they fall in love. It’s alarming because they’ve written the story with characters in a way that justifies rape. Sexual assault is assault; what in the world is this movie even trying to educate?

Moebius – 2013
A mother castrates her teenage son due to the anger she has toward her husband, who is cheating. Learning about his son’s condition, the father also castrates himself. To help him and his son to experience sexual life despite being genital-less, he brings in a plan. Wait a second, what are we even talking about? Why would a mother do that to her son, and why did the father even commit the same thing to himself just because he was guilty? I know story writers can be creative, but this is purely bizarre.
Truth be told, there are plenty of other disturbing steamy Korean movies, and if you have certain titles in your mind, drop them in the comment section.
