The director, producer and screenwriter, born on April 27 first came into the spotlight with his WB drama series Felicity (1998–2002), where he served as a co-creator alongside J. J. Abrams. Since then, the director has not looked back from his latest DC release to producing Hulu’s Mother/Android, the man has spent the last decade and more offering us cinematic gems.

With the hit with Robert Pattinson that is gracing theatres right now, there is no better time to take a look at the best films by Matt Reeves. Here is a short list recounting his best pieces.

Top 3 Matt Reeves Movies

Cloverfield (2008)

Critically it must be Felicity that got Reeves the moment of recognition that he deserves but, it was not until this movie that the director was truly appreciated for giving us a critical and commercial success. A found-footage monster film, the piece was produced by J. J. Abrams with Drew Goddard serving as the writer. The film stars Michael Stahl-David, Odette Yustman, T.J. Miller, Jessica Lucas, Lizzy Caplan, and Mike Vogel and, focuses on these 6 New Yorkers who propagate a plan to flee from the massive monster and other dangerous creatures that attack the city. War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)

The fact that the final film in the franchise turned out to be the best one says a lot about the director that helmed the movie. Reeves joined the Planet of the Apes franchise for the last two movies and, they have been talked about a lot, especially the final one. A lot of great classics including Stars Wars: Empire Strikes Back and Apocalypse Now influenced Reeves to give the film such depth and grandeur and it shows. With remarkable performances by Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson and others, this film is Reeves’ peak cinematic brilliance. The film is available on Disney+ Hotstar.

The Batman (2022)

No matter how much you talk about the Robert Pattinson starrer it just feels less. Comic book appropriate, Kurt Cobain influenced, cinematographically orgasmic and so much more, Reeves has truly given us the Batman it deserves.
