1992 (2024) follows a widow who is looking into her husband’s murder, only to get involved in a bigger scandal that shakes all of Spain. Alongside her is her husband’s friend, an ex-cop turned security guard who is an alcoholic. As the two get deeply involved in resolving the murder, another person dies in the same way and they are set on a hunt.

1992 Ending Explained

The story begins when Amparo is shaken by the sudden death of her husband whom she believes to have been murdered. She is rescued by her husband’s friend Richi, an ex-cop who is now working as a security guard due to his alcoholism. She confides in him about her suspicion and the two begin looking into the case. However, soon after another murder takes place in a similar manner which really puts their doubts that this is a serial killer who is out there to kill many more.

They soon find out that the murders are connected to the 1992 Expo and are aimed at the people who were in charge of the same. They try to save the others from dying while looking for the murderer who is going everywhere burning these people but are soon shocked when they find out the truth behind the reason why these killings are taking place.

Who is the Flamethrower Murderer?

Amparo meets the cleaning lady Rosa’s old friend who is a prostitute who tells her and Carmen the truth about the killer who is named Victor. Meanwhile, Richi is also getting a look into the real story through Victoria who was there when it all happened. During the 1992 Expo, he and the group of men who were arranging the expo would call for prostitutes for their investors and on one such night, they called Rosa along with her friends among which one was Victor’s mother.

However, one of the men ended up killing his mother which led to a panic among them as they turned to hide the whole thing with money. They extorted money from the government while making it look like they were being threatened by an unknown group who was preparing to attack the expo. With the money in hand, they prepared to have the murder hidden and went on living their lives. Unknown to them, the boy Victor saw the whole thing.

When the building was being put on fire with his mother’s body inside, he rushed inside and despite the flames burning him, he brought her out of there and buried her inside the tower from where he saw it all happen. Years later, he was instigated by Victoria to get revenge for his mother. He manipulated the boy by erasing his hand in the murder and got him to kill those people so that he could blackmail the minister to give him money.

Why Did Victor Kill His Victims?

He wanted revenge for his mother who was brutally killed by this group of people. He listens to everything Victoria tells him to do but when committing his last murder, he finds out that even Victoria is a part of this group. He is heartbroken as he trusted to man who only used him for his own benefit. He wanted to create fear within the minister and extort money from him, for which he used Victor.

Unable to get over his anger, Victor later confronts Victoria who is running away by train and burns him to death. Finally, Amparo faces the man who killed her husband and shoots the bullet at him which causes the train to catch on fire, killing him and harming several other passengers.

What Happens to Amparo and Richi?

After the whole fiasco, Amparo rejoins Law school and studies hard towards getting her degree while Richi is back to his old life, but this time he is taking therapy for his alcoholism. They meet once in a while and Richi tries to be more than friends with Amparo, who puts him on hold until she is done with law school.
