Zenshu Episode 9 Recap

This episode opens with Luke reflecting on the hardships of his past, losing nearly all his comrades and clinging to a single remaining future worth protecting. Despite facing criticism and doubt from others, he continued to fight, though he eventually questioned what he was even fighting for. Just when he was at his lowest, Natsuko entered his life, completely altering his fate and reshaping his sense of purpose.

The story unfolds from Luke’s perspective, offering a fresh look at past events while also chronicling his gradual realization of his feelings for Natsuko. We see the small yet meaningful ways he expressed his affection, learning new hairstyles just for her and preparing meals so she’d have something to eat the moment she woke up. Over time, he found himself watching her more often, unable to keep his eyes off her.

This episode felt like a heartfelt love letter from Luke to Natsuko, and it was truly captivating. His awkwardness after realizing his feelings, his constant thoughts of her even in the midst of battle. It all painted a sincere picture of his devotion. In the end, Luke comes to a powerful realization. He has been fighting for Natsuko all along. His battles against the voids were, at their core, all for her.

However, just as the episode builds on this touching romance, the tone takes a sudden, dark turn. Natsuko reveals that despite everything, a tragic fate still awaits Luke. She discloses long-hidden secrets, unravelling truths that had never been addressed before.

The situation has become the worst for Natsuko, and she is finally understanding the consequences of messing with the original plotline. Now that QJ is gone, she has taken a huge blow because of his loss. She blames herself for this as the new enemies look like her drawings, and also she could not do anything when they needed her help. Not only that, but the townspeople are also talking behind her back because they are suspicious about her origin.

They are giving up hope as the majority of the place has already been destroyed. In such a scenario, Luke tries his best to support the people like always. Even Unio understands that if this keeps on going, Luke can very well descend into madness. Finally, even he agrees that the only one who can help Luke out at this moment is Natsuko. On top of that, a rumour that QJ died because of Natsuko also spreads amongst everyone.

Needless to say, just like in the original story, the villagers ganged up on Destiny, and this time they went for Natsuko. One after another, Natsuko realizes that the original situations are happening exactly like she saw in the movie. The bad part is that now she is being hunted by the villagers who believe she is the one who is going to summon the ultimate void.

Today’s episode definitely turned the entire plot from a happy-go-lucky series into a tragedy. We again see Luke absolutely desperate to save Natsuko and drawing his sword against the villagers he swore to protect.  The ending also proved just how the finale of this anime will be.
