You Season 4 Part 1 Ending Explained: Who Dies, Survives and Murders

You is a drama-thriller TV series created by Sera Gamble and Greg Berlanti and starring Penn Badgley, Tati Gabrielle, Charlotte Ritchie, Lukas Gage and Ed Speleers, alongside other cast members. You season 4 Part 1 has 5 episodes, each around 50 minutes long. You season 4 part 2 also has 5 episodes and is set to release on March 09.

Netflix’s description of the series reads:

A DANGEROUSLY CHARMING, INTENSELY OBSESSIVE YOUNG MAN GOES TO EXTREME MEASURES TO INSERT HIMSELF INTO THE LIVES OF THOSE HE IS TRANSFIXED BY.

You Season 4 Part 1 Recap

Joe Goldberg returns for another season of stalking and murdering, but interestingly, following Marienne to Europe and trying to win her affection lands him in London, trying to prove to her that he’s a changed man. Now with a job as an English professor, Joe finds himself surrounded by the rich and bratty kids of the top 10% of London. As he gets to know them more, he finds himself falling into old habits and quickly starts getting taunted by a killer who turns the hunter into the hunted.

You Season 4 Part 1 Ending Explained

You season 4 part 1, of course, finds itself on a cliffhanger, with Joe finding his match in Rhys, who turns out to be the Eat the Rich killer that everyone is dying to catch. Thus, he is the one who murdered Malcolm and tried to frame him but was intrigued with his dead-body dispensing skills. Automatically, Kate stops being the one who killed Gemma; she genuinely just found her body after Rhys murdered her.

Joe was genuinely trying to protect Kate without getting romantically involved, but his resolve didn’t stand a chance against her emotional backstory. Kate’s father is one of the biggest businessmen in the country, which technically makes her the richest of her friends. However, her father’s corrupt and dirty business practices are the reason why she chooses to stay away from him. Of course, her rich and powerful father wants to keep an eye on his daughter and control her in the process. Meanwhile, her mother was also an equally abusive woman who forbade her from showing emotions.

In the end, although Joe technically isn’t a killer this time around, he gets called one by Kate’s jealous one-sided lover Roald and is almost murdered in a wild goose chase through the woods. Rhys thankfully saves him, but in the end, realises that Joe doesn’t share his sentiments of getting rid of the rich. Rhys leaves the two of them chained to a dungeon while setting the place on fire. Determined to live, Joe breaks his own and Roald’s chains and, with Kate’s help, gets out of the pit of hell.

At the fag end of the episode, Kate is seen trying to get to know Joe, having shared some sizzling chemistry with him throughout. However, faced with the possibility of further danger and realising that Kate is genuinely a good person, he puts down her offer so as not to drag her into this mess. It shows growth on his part that he also mentions – at some other point in time, he would have jumped at the opportunity. But things are very different now, and he can’t afford to get distracted.

You Season 4 Part 2 Predictions

Now that both Joe and Rhys know each other’s identities and what they are capable of, the season part will definitely come with its own cat and mouse chase. Rhys uses his friends’ deaths to push his name into the London mayoral race, and considering his roots and the fact that his book is well-liked, I am guessing it wouldn’t take much for him to be nominated.

Will Joe go back to following him around and ending him? Or will Rhys try to frame him for Malcolm’s murder? And what happens to Kate? With her advances being rejected, I am guessing things won’t be great between her and Joe. Will she also figure out his bloody past? And let’s not Marienne – will we be seeing more of him?

You is streaming on Netflix.
