World’s End Harem Episode 1 definitely falls into the controversial pile of the latest anime season. From the premise to the execution, the show leaves no stone unturned to establish itself in infamy, and we’re here for it.
World’s End Harem Episode 1 Overview
World’s End Harem or Shuumatsu No Harem in original Japanese is an Ecchi, Sci-fi, and Harem anime developed by Studio Gokumi of Tsuredure Children fame, alongside AXsiZ, which is known for shows like Seiren. The anime is based on a manga of the same name written by Kotaro Shono and LINK.
The series is directed by Nobuta Yuu, who has previously been involved with the productions of Bokura No and High School Fleet. The show was originally going to premiere in the Fall 2021 season of anime but was postponed to Winter 2022 due to some behind the scene issues.

World’s End Harem Episode 1 Review- Plot and Characters
A few disclaimers are in order before we take a look at the most cultured series that has ever graced this website. For one, these reviews will be considerably fluffier and light-hearted than most of our other content, considering the nature of this show. However, the show will still be judged based on its merits and not the wish-fulfilment elements. While reviewing a series like this might seem counter-intuitive to some, it is still an interesting prospect worthy enough to explore in this writer’s opinion.

Addressing the elephant in the room, yes, this show should have been hentai instead of an anime. Everything about it screams “Hentai” in the loudest voice possible. There’s the obviously and shamelessly sexual plot, the framing, the voluptuous endowments of nearly all female characters, and the literal breasts and the show throws at you from time to time. There’s no doubt about it, World’s End Harem thrives on being risque and liberally includes eroge elements in its runtime.
While that is certainly an interesting choice, as long as the show remains fun and watchable, its lewd nature should never be a point of concern. So, just how good was the show? Not very is our answer this time around. The plot feels awfully generic, and the worldbuilding is very uninspired. The futuristic world is similar to and borrows heavily from several other better anime that came before, and the premise doesn’t seem to be inspiring much confidence for the future.

The protagonist, Reito Mizuhara, is a romantic stuck in a position least suited for a character like him. That might lead to some good contrast in the future episodes between what he wants to and is made to do. His quest is also noble, as he aims for romance rather than mindless carnal fulfilment the show is set around. That, at least, indicates that the show intends to give the story some attention, which is great. Overall, not a very good start, but it could be worse.
World’s End Harem Episode 1 Review- Art and Music
The show’s intentional brush with the lewd world of hentai continues with the art style it uses. It is plain and not very detailed, except on the body parts it wants to detail. It doesn’t look bad, but there isn’t anything special to talk about. There wasn’t a whole bunch of music to talk about either, as there was no opening theme, and what played in the dining could very well be the show’s opening, considering most shows these days do that kind of thing. We’ll talk about these more as we go on with the show and it progresses.
Verdict
World’s End Harem Episode 1 was a mediocre pilot of a show that would be forgotten with a week if it wasn’t this sexual and lewd in nature. However, there were elements here that could lead to bigger and better things down the line.
