Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 8 Recap

We begin with the celebration held in Will’s honour for defeating Julius and upholding the dwarves’ reputation. At the party, Will is surrounded by those who genuinely support him, including Rosti and Colette. But the most satisfying moment comes from Julius and his friends, who once mocked the dwarves for not using magic. Instead of simply apologizing, they are now put to work in the pub’s kitchen—a fitting and amusing consequence.
The tournament’s impact doesn’t stop there. Will’s incredible strength is now widely recognized, and many are eager to recruit him for monster hunts in the dungeon. While some are mainly looking to benefit from Will’s abilities, he’s pleased to be seen as a friend regardless. Another lighthearted moment unfolds when Will plans a date with Colette, only for it to be humorously interrupted by Rosti, whose affection for Will remains steadfast.
On a more serious note, Will also catches the attention of the top four students, who had previously dismissed him as a failure. The star of Rigarden Academy, Liana, personally invites Will to join her, Sion, Julius, and Wignal in an upcoming All Student Praxis for a dungeon dive. This dive is no ordinary raid; it’s a challenging mission to explore the uncharted depths of the dungeon, gather as many points as possible, and ascend the tower.
Wistoria: Wand and Sword Episode 9 Review And Recap

Today’s episode was very interesting because the focus now shifts to Wignall, the mysterious elf. But we’re also shown the happenings of the dungeon that is slowly becoming more dangerous by the minute. Initially, Will is nothing more than a burden who cannot even perform the most basic magic that is mandatory while hunting in the dungeon, which is called Search. Search is an ability through which one can detect the presence of a monster, and it doesn’t really need much for one to perform it. But because Will is magic-less, he cannot do this, and this aspect heavily slows him down compared to his peers who are exceptional mages.
Wignall, who was at first okay with Will, starts to criticize his obvious ineptness. He further shows hostility when Will tries to offer food, refusing to touch Will. Apparently, elves are a very proud race that only accepts touch from the people they have acknowledged, and Will is far from that position. Not only Wignall but even Lianna’s belief towards Will’s strength starts to waver, but she still hopes for the best. Perhaps this has more to do with her purpose of slaying a creature called Luminous Naberus. This creature alone is 110 credit worth, and it is a fearsome being against whom Will might be able to help.

However, magic beasts are not the only threat in the dungeon. We see a pair of very suspicious-looking people who exterminate humans and monsters alike in a gruesome fashion. What their goal is or why are they here in the dungeon in the 1st place is something that remains unknown.
However, problems for Will and his party have just begun because even though the Mages might rave about Search magic, it has one fatal flaw. It isn’t all-powerful as it fails to detect graver traps, and there is a type of monster that can even evade Search.
Verdict

Will is in his worst situation, where there is not much he can do to protect others. Another important aspect of this episode is how we got to know more about Wignall, who suffered from deep psychological trauma from a very young age. His difficult personality is perhaps the result of how he was treated by his own people.
