Who Killed Jill Dando Synopsis
Jill Dando was a journalist, TV presenter and newsreader who was one of the most recognisable faces on British TV in the ‘90s. She hosted a variety of programs, including Crimewatch, Songs of Praise, Holiday, a vacation programme, and Antiques Inspectors. In 1997, the BBC named her its Personality of the Year. Jill was so professional that people treated her as “TV Diana”. She was the nation’s sweetheart and was also known as the “golden girl of British television”. She was murdered on her doorstep in broad daylight.
There were a lot of theories about who was responsible for the murder, like criminal networks, mafia, Russians, and jilted lovers. Barry George, a local resident who lived close to Dando, was charged with her murder following extensive media coverage and an extensive investigation by the Metropolitan Police. He was found guilty in 2001, but after forensic evidence was shown to be invalid, he was freed in 2007 pending an appeal. After Barry Geoge’s acquittal, there were no more serious investigations into Jill Dando’s death.

The documentary series is being directed by Marcus Plowright who is known for his work in Fred and Rose West: Reopened. The Docuseries is produced by Emma Cooper who is known for her work in the Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes. Her family, friends, journalists, investigators and lawyers will be featured in the series as their stories and accounts will be included in the exclusive interviews.
