When and Where to Watch Shooting Stars? Read to Know More

If you think you know what all goes into making a sports legend, then you obviously don’t know much. In cases like this, it’s always better to hear the truth from the horse’s mouth because we can never fully grasp the severity of challenges pitted along the way of those wanting to reach high for greatness. Shooting Stars is one such upcoming film that again delves deep into the much-loved sport of basketball and the life changing lessons it teaches its players along the way.

The Peacock original film takes a look into a rather untold chapter of one of the greatest players of the sport out there – LeBron James. Directed by Chris Robinson, the new sports biopic has been written for screen by Frank E Flowers, Tony Rettenmaier and Juel Taylor. What all does the movie have to say? Let’s sneak a peek into what’s coming next.

Shooting Stars Plot/Storyline

Based on LeBron James and Buzz Bissinger’s (Friday Nights Live) book of the same name, though the film presents a biographical account of the young and humble beginnings of James’ basketball dreams, it’s also a feature film adaption of “the celebrated memoir” penned by James. Telling the story of James and his best friends (Lil Dru, Willie McGee, Sian Cotton, and then Romeo Travis), both the movie and the book revolve around the true compelling power of teamwork and its ability to transform lives.

Shooting Stars deals out the life of a group of boys in the 1990s, all influenced by different factors, but ultimately united by their love of the game. Although the depiction of it all begins on the court, it surely doesn’t end there. Digging deep into how a youth basketball team first came together while yearning for the big win and then went on their gruelling journey towards the national championship in high school, the plot primarily sticks with the bond forged by the friends on this adventure of a lifetime. It helps them make their way through thick and thin together, and eventually hands out some valued lessons about being a grounded person and life in general.

Taking us off court, the narrative also focusses on how LeBron had a disruptive childhood without a father, which compelled him and his mother to switch places time and again, thus, snatching away any and all sense of stability in their lives. And he wasn’t the only one grappling with such issues. Willie McGee found shelter and safety with his older brother in Akron upon leaving his parents behind. Similarly, the other members of the group dealt with their respective dilemmas, but, in the end, found comfort in their new-found family with each other, facing an even bigger enemy – the outside world ready to tear them apart on their way to the top.

Shooting Stars Cast

In the leading titular role, Marquis Mookie Cook makes his acting debut with the portrayal of young LeBron James. As part of his inner crew, Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin takes Lil Dru’s spot. Wood Harris plays McLaughlin’s father in the role of Coach Dru Joyce, the man who guided the friends in high school.

Previously spotted in the Apple TV+ series Swagger, Avery Wills Jr plays the quiet one in the lot – Willie McGee. Sterling Scoot Henderson takes on the role of the former basketball adversary, Romeo Travis. Khalil Everage from Cobra Kai will seen as Sian Cotton, and Dermot Mulroney will serve as the new coach.
