When Life Gives You Tangerines Episode 7 Recap

In this episode of the show, we witness the chaos caused in the town because of the Olympics and the corruption that creates an opportunity for Ae-sun. As Sang-gil tries to help the authorities clear the path for the games, Ae-sun stands up for the people and openly competes against him in the upcoming local elections. Gwan-sik also tries to help his wife in his own silent way while Ae-sun decides to not use any corrupt ways to get votes.

While she is slowly flourishing in her new path, her role as a parent is falling into jeopardy as her son’s continued pranks in school leave her angered. And while her pride in her daughter stays high, she is unaware of the chaos Geum-myeong is creating in Seoul.

As Sang-gil continues to use her history to create rumours among the voters, Ae-sun is unable to take it anymore and reveals Sang-gil’s deeds to everyone and soon she takes on the win in the elections. Becoming the first female Chief in the town, the celebrations are joyous and filled with Ae-sun’s laughter while Gwan-sik achieves his dream of becoming the husband of the Chief.

Later, Gwan-sik takes Ae-sun home as she tells him about her happiness while also wishing that she could share this moment with her mother. Becoming the Chief was a dream she once saw in her childhood with her mother and now that she is no longer here, Ae-sun feels a sense of longing for her. Ae-sun takes the win with her political career, but chaos is soon to come her way as her children see trouble coming their way.

While their son catches a girl’s attention, Geum-myeong is conducting illegal tuition to help with her expenses. Despite the misunderstandings that are being created between her and the boy she likes, she works hard to ensure that she doesn’t burden her parents. However, this lands her in trouble when her student’s mother tells her to impersonate her daughter and write the college entrance exams.

Geum-myeong rejects the offer and tries to leave but the woman accuses her of robbery which lands her in trouble. Unknown to her, Gwan-sik and the boy she likes are both waiting for her return near the dormitories.

A new chapter has begun and while Gwan-sik and Ae-sun are entering a new phase in life, we also get to see their reaction to the chaos that was once caused by them. But first, I have to say that Moon So-ri and Park Hae-joon as Ae-sun and Gwan-sik are already shining! I can see the same personalities of the characters shine through their eyes and this has already got me whipped. Meanwhile, IU is taking on a new role as Ae-sun’s daughter Geum-myeong. There is no doubt that this shift must have been difficult for the actor and yet I see no flaws in her performance.

Moving on to the episode, this has to be one of the more subtle and softer episodes yet. You see the happiness Ae-sun achieves and the love shining in Gwan-sik’s eyes seeing her win. These two are definitely worth all the love given to them as they continue to leave us in a bundle of warmth every time they appear on screen. It is the characters that shine every time and the performance of the actors only makes this better as none of them have failed with these two characters.

Finally, this episode also shows us the result of our beloved couple’s parenting which makes Geum-myeong such a strong character despite the temptations around her. She is able to take on the challenges in front of her, which in turn makes me curious about how she would tackle this new problem.
