Memoria

The Jury Prize Winner at the Cannes Film Festival 2022, Memoria is slated to arrive on Mubi soon. The film stars Tilda Swinton, Elkin Díaz, Jeanne Balibar, Juan Pablo Urrego and Daniel Giménez Cacho and, is an internationally co-produced fantasy drama. The film revolves around a Scottish woman, who after hearing a loud ‘bang’ at daybreak begins to experience a mysterious sensory syndrome as she traverses through the jungles of Colombia.

August 12

The Humans

A psychological drama written and directed by Stephen Karam which marks his directorial debut, this film is based Karam one-act play of the same name. The film features Richard Jenkins, Jayne Houdyshell, Amy Schumer, Beanie Feldstein, Steven Yeun and June Squibb. With a Succession-like twist that makes the story haunting, it is about the Blake family’s Thanksgiving dinner that gathers three generations of family members who bare the darkest moments.

Crimes of the Future

A science-fiction horror written and directed by David Cronenberg, Crimes of the Future stars Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart in major roles. The film was a tough competitor at the Cannes Film Festival 2022 for the Palme d’Or and was honoured with a six-minute standing ovation.

Set in a distant future, the film shows how humans have adapted to a synthetic environment giving rise to new transformations and mutations. In this dystopian setting, we meet Saul Tenser who publicly showcases the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. The film is already out on Mubi. Watch it, here.

Vortex

Gasper Noe’s 2021 independent psychological drama, Vortex is a film that was loved by critics and audiences alike. Making its way soon to our screens, the film stars Dario Argento in his first leading role, alongside Françoise Lebrun and Alex Lutz in a story about a retired psychiatrist with dementia whose paths cross with a struggling author with a heart condition and how they live their final days together.

Decision to Leave

The 2022 romantic mystery drama produced, co-written and directed by Park Chan-wook has been something people cannot way to watch. The film was not only selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2022 but, also was what made Park Chan-wook win the Best Director award at the event.

Starring Tang Wei and Park Hae-il, Decision to Leave revolves around a detective investigating a certain man’s death where he ends up meeting and developing feelings for the victim’s mysterious wife as he continues to find the murderer.

The Kingdom Exodus

This autumn is going to be just the time when we shift our focus to Mubi because coming exclusively to the platform is Lars von Trier’s classic The Kingdom Exodus with all three seasons. It is going to be the streamer’s first TV release. The third season of the series will have its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in 2022 before making its way to Mubi in the fall.
