Barbie is such a highly anticipated film that every piece of news coming from it has created such chaos in the film community that even the What Was I Made For music video has caused a storm. We see Billie Eilish in the music video, and her involvement was already creating so much hype that even Mark Ronson was excited to share the news about Eilish being in the album. He was tasked to be the music producer on the album, along with some incredibly popular artists.
The video shows the artist sitting on a table in a pastel olive green room, trying to put on miniature clothes on a miniature closet hanger. She is wearing a yellow dress and yellow earrings. Her hair is tied up in the classic Barbie logo hairdo. It completely brings in all the existential crisis vibes that Margot Robbie’s character felt throughout the movie’s trailer. When things start going wrong, the songs also bring the same vibe.

When Eilish is hanging all the clothes on the hanger, it feels like something resistant is coming in, blowing away her case, her clothes, and her hanger. The more she tries to bring everything together and get everything in order, the more things start to go wrong. She manages to get things under control, but then the rain starts pouring inside the room she’s in. It is already concerning that she is not in pink, and now it rains in Barbieland? There are some very wrong things happening in this place.
Even the lyrics convey similar sentiments. She sings about things going wrong, about not knowing what to do and not knowing whether her existence ever had any meaning at all. There even is a lyric where she refers to Ken not knowing what he was made for, too, and it feels like both these characters are having their own existential crises in the weirdest telepathic way possible. Fans of Eilish and the movie have been listening to the song, and they have been loving it.
Some have once again started circulating the Spongebob meme with him listening to music, and one other person shared a video of Nicki Minaj writing with a pen that is on fire to allude to how the lyrics are incredibly relevant to the movie. Some others have also pointed out that all of the outfits she removes from the box are actually miniatures of what she has worn before, either on red carpets or at some events she has attended. Every aspect of this song is making people emotional.
