Welcome to Samdal-ri Episode 9 Recap

Episode 9 opens up with the story of the two Mi-jas, where one Bu Mi-ja from the island becomes friends with the Ko Mi-ja from the city after a lot of fighting and making fun of each other. The two soon became so close that they would not be separated, not until an incident which separates the friends forever.

We see how Ko Mi-ja wanted to dive when the currents were not in their favour, and Bu Mi-ja accompanied her friend, only to make this her last dive. This is why Sang-tae has been resenting Ko Mi-ja all these years and has been unable to forgive her for what she did.

Back in the present, Sang-tae rushes to the shore and sees Mi-ja being carried into an ambulance while her family follows right behind. Elsewhere, Yong-pil too finds out that Mi-ja is being taken to the hospital and rushes there, calling Sam-dal on the way to keep her calm.

The family soon reaches the hospital where the doctor keeps questioning their father who isn’t able to answer due to panic, right then Yong-pil arrives and answers the doctor. He tells him that Mi-ja has arrhythmia and mentions the medicines she has been taking and other information. The sisters are shocked to find out about Mi-ja’s condition which she had been suffering from for the past eight years.

Later, Yong-pil asks Sam-dal if she is alright only for her to finally burst out as he did not tell her about Mi-ja’s health condition, and also lied about not knowing anything. Yong-pil tells her that Mi-ja stopped them from telling this to the sisters, but if she had visited Mi-ja in the past eight years then she would’ve known this herself.

Sam-dal is struck with guilt by this statement and cannot help but think of how it was because of him that she never came back to the island. Elsewhere, Sang-do tries to hurry to the hospital to check on Sam-dal and the others but is stopped by his friends who tell him that it would be a hassle for the family, plus Yong-pil is already there to update them.

This angers Sang-do as his going would be a burden while Yong-pil’s presence is not surprising to anyone. On the other hand, the diving ladies are taking care of Ha-yul but cannot stop talking about Mi-ja. Later, Ha-yul goes to the sea on the pretext of looking at dolphins where she meets Ji-chan and finally bursts out crying while worried for he grandmother.

The sister spends the night looking after their mother and tries to stop her from leaving the hospital the next day only to fail. Yong-pil arrives to drive them home where the ladies are waiting for Mi-ja’s return. Later that night, the sisters get drunk and promise to look after their mother and stop her from diving.

The next day, Sam-dal remembers how she threw her anger at Yong-pil and wants to apologise to him. She calls him outside to meet but is surprised when Yong-pil apologises to her instead. Later, her actions remind him of another piece of their past which makes Yong-pil emotional.

Meanwhile, Gyeong-tae and Eun-u find out that Yong-pil stayed in Samdal-ri for Mi-ja as he knew about her condition eight years ago. He has since been keeping an eye on her each time she went diving, even covering her buoy with a floral patterned cloth. Elsewhere, Sang-tae too finds out about this when he sees someone carrying Mi-ja’s buoy and remembers seeing the cloth in Yong-pil’s room.

This angers him and late that night he confronts Yong-pil and tells him to go to Seoul. Yong-pil is unable to keep his emotions inside and bursts out at him, telling Sang-tae that he cannot resent Mi-ja like him. He too feels the pain of losing his mother and not being able to be with Sam-dal, but he has never spoken about this till now.
