Making her long-awaited return with the upcoming Hindi Netflix movie, Kareena Kapoor Khan is all set to don the new avatar of Maya, and the Jaane Jaan trailer grants us a glimpse into the highly anticipated mystery thriller film.
The movie is an Indian adaptation of the 2005 Japanese novel The Devotion of Suspect X by Keigo Higashino. Netflix had already revealed a teasing announcement video for the same on August 25, 2023, thereby unveiling the first look at the movie’s cast and their characters in a solemn light.
Releasing on September 5, the trailer gives us a sneak peek into the story as composed school teacher played by Jaideep Ahlawat reaches out to help his distressed neighbour, i.e. Kareena’s Maya D’Souza. The mystery picks up from there as Saurabh Sachdeva’s character, Maya’s estranged husband, comes into picture, much like the novel’s course of actions.
Thereafter, Ahlawat’s Naren gets pulled into the mess as well, which eventually fleshes out into a full-fledged investigation headed by Vijay Varma’s Karan that ends up becoming a problem for all three characters.
It remains to be seen how these actions and misfortunes will translate on the screen, but with Kareena back on our screens, we can anticipate a great hit ahead.
The Sujoy Ghosh directorial has been written by him alongside Raj Vasant and produced by Jay Shewakramani, Akshai Puri, Hyunwoo Thomas Kim, Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor.
Starring Jaideep Ahlawat as Naren, Vijay Varma as Karan, Naisha Khanna as Maya’s daughter and others, the film marks Kareena Kapoor Khan's streaming debut.
The novel has previously been adapted several times. Some of these adaptations include the Japanese film Suspect X, the South Korean film Perfect Number, and other Tamil and Chinese adaptations for the same also predate the upcoming Hindi-language release.
Produced under the banner of 12th Street Entertaiment and Northern Lights Films with Kross Pictures and Balaji Motion Pictures, Jaane Jaan is slated to exclusively premiere on Netflix on September 21, 2023.
