Villainess Level 99 Episode 3/Akuyaku Reijō Reberu 99 Episode 3 premiered on January 23, 2024. In the new episode, Yumiella faces yet another set of problems with the people around her which puts her in a difficult position. The episode is approximately 23 minutes long.
Villainess Level 99: I May Be the Hidden Boss but I’m Not the Demon Lord or Akuyaku Reijō Reberu 99: Watashi wa Ura Bosudesuga Maō de wa Arimasen (悪役令嬢レベル99 ~私は裏ボスですが魔王ではありません~) is a new anime series based on the Japanese light novel series with the same name written by Satori Tanabata with illustrations by Tea. Directed by Minoru Yamaoka, the script of the show is written by Fumihiko Shimo and character designs handled by Hitomi Kaiho and Lo Ho Kim.
Mayu Maeshima lends her voice to the opening theme song, Love or Hate?, while Fairouz Ai and Rina Hidaka, embodying their respective characters, perform the ending theme song titled Suki ga Rebechi (好きがレベチ, Love on a Different Level). The series has been officially licensed by Crunchyroll, and Plus Media Networks Asia holds the licensing rights for the Southeast Asian region.
The story follows Yumiella Dolkness, who finds herself thrust into the world of Light Magic and the Hero, an otome RPG where she takes on the role of the clandestine boss. Determined to secure her survival, she dedicates her childhood to relentless level grinding. However, a twist of fate reveals an unintended consequence: Yumiella surpasses expectations, reaching the formidable Level 99 instead of the anticipated Level 10 for students. This overachievement not only attracts undue attention but also deviates from the meticulously crafted script of the game, setting the stage for unforeseen challenges in her reincarnated journey.
-Villainess Level 99 Episode 3 Review Contains No Spoilers-
In the new episode, Yumiella is finally recognised for her powers and talents. However, the kingdom remains skeptical about her usage of dar magic which is mostly attached to being associated with evil sorcerers. But the show vividly explains that dark magic necessarily does not mean that it is evil. It depends on the user if they wish to do good or cause mayhem among the people.
Moreover, the show also deals with the colour black or ‘dark’ being associated with anything inauspicious. Simply by addressing the issue, the show speaks volumes about how it is discriminatory to assume anything just by the appearance of someone or something. Although Yumiella is the actual Demon Lord according to the plot of the game, her main goal here is to lead a peaceful and long life.

The episode skillfully unveils the evolving narrative, providing viewers with an enticing glimpse into the potential storyline. Additionally, the novel perspective on the antagonist’s arc adds a captivating dimension to the overall plot. Remarkably, the villain is portrayed not as inherently virtuous, but rather as an indifferent character seeking a serene and peaceful existence. Unfortunately, her aspirations come crashing down when she unwittingly achieves the highest level through years of unwavering dedication since childhood.
Compliments are due for the animation showcased in this production, as it underscores a remarkable level of skill and meticulous attention to detail. The fluidity of character movements, coupled with the incorporation of vivid visual elements, synergistically elevates the overall viewing experience, crafting an enjoyable spectacle for the audience. However, it’s important to note that there are moments where the utilization of CGI takes centre stage, slightly overshadowing the otherwise seamless integration of traditional animation. Despite this occasional imbalance, the animation’s overall quality remains praiseworthy, with the CGI elements adding a unique dimension to the visual storytelling.
