Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 8 Review: Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 8 was entertaining and surprising. If you want to know the detailed review read ahead.

Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 8 Overview

Urusei Yatsura returns to breathe new life into the “boy meets extraordinary girl” genre. This anime masterpiece combines elements of comedy, romance, and sci-fi, enriched with a generous dose of humorous gags.

Once again, the series boasts a talented trio of directors at its helm. Among them is Takahashi Hideya, renowned for his contributions to Sword Art Online, Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru, To LOVE-Ru, and more. The other directors include Kamei Takahiro, known for his work on Enen no Shouboutai, Captain Tsubasa (2018), and others, as well as Kimura Yasuhiro, who lent his expertise to Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic.

Episode 8 of Urusei Yatsura 2nd Season can also be called the 8th episode of うる星やつら第2期.

I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 8 Review and Recap – Ataru Hates His Fate

Urusei Yatsura Season 2 Episode 8 Review Everyone Wants An Ideal Future

Today’s episode is a continuation of the last episode, where we saw Ataru and Lum going to a separate dimension and discovering their future life. There, they got the shock of their lives, because in the future, Ataru is married to Shinobu and even has a kid with her. This kid is as lecherous and flirtatious as his father, Ataru.

Then we also see that some rabbit-like costume-wearing people are actually the ones who control the fate of everyone. One of them, called Inaba, accidentally drops his key to the door to one of the futures, and this is where all the problem starts.

In this episode, our protagonists are in a grave situation. They cannot fathom that their ideal future is not the real one. Hence to get what they want, Ataru, Lum, Shinobu and Inaba go on an adventure that consists of travelling through dimensions.

This episode was pretty interesting as we see just how different each future can be. Some of the pairs that we see in each destiny were pretty obvious and felt normal. But some of them are so bizarre that even the characters could not help but be in denial about the entire thing.

But like other episodes, here, we did not see our conclusion and the entire storyline will continue in the next episode. Considering how Urusei Yatsura does not really stretch its story to more than two episodes, this is a new approach where we might see the same plot for almost 3 or maybe even 4 episodes. This particular plot must be pretty important for it to get special treatment. This is why, I am excited to know whether Ataru and Lum manage to get their favoured futures. But this will be a difficult thing to obtain as both their ideal lives are too different from one another.

Verdict

As usual, I enjoyed and liked this episode. The comedy is pretty haphazard, and the situations are weird, but, at this point, it is characteristic of this anime to be unusual, and I find that trait charming.

I have some really high hopes for the next episode of this series as the mystery of what future is the real one might finally be solved. Whether Ataru’s dream of a harem will be true or Lum’s wish of a happy married life with Ataru will be true is something we will find out the following week.
