Yumi’s Cells Season 3 (April 13)
In its third season, Yu-mi, after quitting her job, finds her days running into one another, despite gaining fame as a romance novelist. With her cells falling asleep thanks to no new challenges, things begin to change when Sun-rok appears in her life. Despite their clashing personalities, the two of them unlock something in each other that ultimately makes them fall in love.
Returning for the third and possibly final season, this fan-favourite show, starring Kim Go-eun and Kim Jae-won, might just be ending, and is expected to focus on Yu-mi’s journey of self-discovery as she makes strides in her personal growth and independence. As she continues to navigate love and career choices, the series will ultimately bring closure to all of its long-running romantic arcs and hopefully give us a memorable finale.
Absolute Value of Romance (April 17)
The story follows ordinary high-school student Eui-ju, who, despite her low profile in her real life, has a surprising hobby – she writes daring adult-only novels online. Although she barely gets any views, that changes when four handsome new teachers arrive at her school, and they quickly become her new muses.
The quirky storytelling and unconventional characters are meant to set this drama apart, as the storyline adds a bold twist to the obvious romance genre by blending coming-of-age storytelling with creative expression and double lives. It’s safe to expect humour and emotional depth as Eui-ju overcomes her obstacles through her writing and discovers her personality intimately, thanks to the new teachers who bring something new to the table.
We Are All Trying Here (April 18)
The series follows several people working in the film industry, at the centre of which is aspiring director Hwang Dong-man, who, despite trying his hardest for years, is unable to find peace and success. With a handful of others in a similar pickle as him, the story intertwines their lives and experiences to explore what success means to everyone.
In this complex slice-of-life drama, we delve deep into the harsh realities of the film industry as it explores how failure, envy and ambition change and shape people’s lives and relationships. The series brings forth a layered narrative and morally complex characters, leaving us to have a cerebral experience where nothing is black or white.
