Unmasked Episode 3 Recap

The episode starts with So-ryong and Han Do sitting outside their office with the rest of the staff after the sudden attack. However, all that becomes second thought when they receive a notification about an Amber Alert. The police get into the apartment of someone they suspect and find the child’s shoes outside. Meanwhile, Son Jun-yeong frames the old man, Yoon Nam-gi, and flips the narrative on him, telling him that he forced him to kill the cats. He also plants the missing child’s eyes in his room.

When the police update So-ryong on the situation, she rushes out with Gi-ho and Han Do. At Nam-gi’s house, they find Jun-yeong inside the burning building but Nam-gi is found barely alive and half burnt. Han Do is left traumatised and lashes out at everyone around him for not listening to his warnings. The police later find the missing child’s body in Jun-yeong’s house.

At the hospital, Han Do goes to meet Jun-yeong after creating a distraction and is horrified to listen to him rambling about murdering someone so candidly. However, Han Do has another trick up his sleeve and tells him that he will expose everything about him to the world. Even though he won’t go to prison because of his age, he will not be able to live in peace for the rest of his life. Unfortunately, he realises that it won’t be easy to take Jun-yeong down because his family is loaded. Meanwhile, So-ryong finds the camera she had hidden inside Nam-gi’s house but is disappointed to find that it has melted. She takes the detective with her to see a specialist in hopes of getting something out of it.

Later on, So-ryong and Han Do have a word tussle with one another and the latter asks for reassurance that if he covers the story, Jun-yeong can face justice. However, So-ryong refuses to throw him a pity party any further and doesn’t give him what he wants. Thankfully, they are able to recover the data of the murder taking place which proves the fact that Jun-yeong wasn’t a victim but the perpetrator. Later, she enquires about Cho Hae-won’s travel records but is disappointed to find out that she hasn’t entered Korea at any point.

Trigger gets the chance to interview Min-geun’s parents but when they reach the house, his mother realises that Han Do was the one who abused him on the street the day before and kicks both of them out. Back at the office, everyone is baffled that Gi-ho and Han Do were unable to get the interview but the latter informs them of Jun-yeong’s recording and advices to go forth with that angle. He later takes Gi-ho to interview Min-geun’s neighbour who shares the shocking story of him drowning his younger brother when he was younger which leaves them both shocked.

With all this, Trigger brings out a stunning and dramatic re-enactment of the chain of events which eventually results in Jun-yeong being arrested by the police. When his mother attacks So-ryong standing outside the hospital, the latter reminds her that she was the most likely victim of her son’s psychopathic tendencies but was saved by those who had to lose their lives before that could happen. She should be more remorseful as well as afraid of what happened and what could’ve been. His mother immediately breaks down and we see the fear in her eyes as it becomes apparent that she has probably been feeling these things for a long time as well.
