Under the Queen’s Umbrella Episode 15 Twitter Review: Twisted Family Ties Unleash a Hurricane of Outbursts

Under the Queen’s Umbrella episode 15 (슈룹) was released on Netflix on December 3, 2022, with a runtime of 65 minutes. Directed by Kim Hyung-shik, the period Korean drama stars Kim Hye-soo as Queen Im Hwa-Seong, Kim Hae-sook as Queen Dowager, and Choi Won-young as the King, Moon Sang-min as Seong-nam (the new Crown Prince), Kang Chan-hee as Prince Ui-seong and Oh Ye-ju as Cheong-ha (the new Crown Princess) alongside others.

Envisioning the position taken on by the women residing in the Joseon era, the drama takes us through the struggles and challenges they faced, as represented in the case of Queen Hwa-ryeong, especially when concerned with the questions of the throne. While women in such settings are often left in the background with the sole responsibility to produce an heir for the throne and to cater to the King’s needs, this kdrama turns this conventional dogma on its head by offering everyone an equal space, especially for the battle of the wits.

The latest episode’s premiere automatically means that we’re headed for the endgame now with Hwa-ryeong’s life and the “most hated family’s” arc on fire. Just like there have been constant favourites on the show, fans also found certain characters they’ve detested since the series’ onset.

A few of them have to be Queen Dowager and Consort Hwang’s entire family – Kwon (her supposed lover), Prince Ui-seong (her son) and Chief State Councillor Won-hyeong (her father). In the latter case, only half of them were left standing after the fifteenth episode’s final moments, purging the show of most of its evil elements. Nevertheless, the ending caused quite a stir among the fans, who were brought to tears by how tragic Ui-seong’s life was in the end.

One of the other aspects in focus was the opening scene shared between the characters, Queen Hwang-ryeong and Physician Kwon, where we witnessed an absolute explosion of the Queen’s pent-up feelings upon the revelation of the cause of her son’s murder. Seong-nam finally opened up his heart to Cheong-ha as well and proved that he genuinely cares for her wellbeing more than them producing an heir, hence the fan’s proclamation of him being the “Husband of the Year”.
