Under the Queen’s Umbrella (슈룹) Episodes 1-2 premiered on Netflix and tvN on October 15 and 16, 2022, respectively and have already gained a lot of traction among the audience, especially Kim Hye-soo’s fans. She’s been delivering one punch-packing performance after the other and her followers can’t have enough of her versatile range and capability in the acting arena.
The first two episodes of the historical drama starring the titular queen played by the aforementioned actress introduced a long, limitless list of actors joining the cast in the lead. Kim Hae-sook as Queen Dowager, Choi Won-young as the King, Moon Sang-min as Grand Prince Seong-nam, Bae In-hyuk as the Crown Prince, Yoo Seon-ho as Grand Prince Gye-seong, Yoon Sang-hyun as Grand Prince Mu-an, Park Ha-jun as Grand Prince Il-young, Kang Chan-hee as Prince Ui-seong and more.

Other than the interminable list of A-grade actors gracing the period piece, the series’ striking similarity, in terms of the themes at its focus, with Sky Drama has taken many viewers back in time. Queen Hwa-ryeong’s (Kim Hye-soo) sons, who’ve been honored with the title of Grand Princes, and her chaotic, yet rib-tickling relationship foregrounds a humbling familial reality that most of us are familiar with. While the Crown Prince is the only disciplined and grounded sibling of all, his four brothers never leave a chance to make their mother run after them, no matter how differing and subjective their reasons may be.

Kang Chan-hee has yet again been cast in a negative role and his fans extend their urging appeal for his acting abilities to be acknowledged in a different light as well from time to time. However, there’s no doubt in his supremacy as the villain we all love to hate.

Ranging emotions have been recorded on Twitter by fans, putting forward their love for the lead actress’ blazing performance, the Grand Princes’ warming relationship with each other, and the Crown Prince. The direction has also been applauded countless times for capturing the most appropriate depth of emotions portrayed by the actors. Another one of the factors that have been raved about the most is Moon Sang-min’s persona of the Grand Prince Seong-nam. He has stolen everyone’s heart with his restrained yet assertive outburst whenever anyone slanders his mother or brothers’ names.
