Tensions between Eun-gyeol and Yi-chan rise after a drastic revelation in Twinkling Watermelon Episode 9. Another relationship starts to blossom as they fight to win Se-kyung’s heart. However, Eun-gyeol is determined about his goal and does everything to change the past for the better. The episode premiered on October 23, 2023, on tvN network.
The K-drama Twinkling Watermelon or Sparkling Watermelon (반짝이는 워터멜론) is directed by Son Jong-hyun and written by Jin Soo-Wan. Ryeoun, Choi Hyun-wook, Seol In-ah and Shin Eun-soo will be appearing in the lead roles for the show. The show is expected to have a total of 16 episodes with a runtime of approximately 60 minutes each.

A 15.6 billion won production and supply agreement for the show was signed by production companies Pan Entertainment and Studio Dragon on September 5, 2023. The show takes over tvN’s Monday & Tuesday 8:50 time slot previously occupied by My Lovely Liar.
-Twinkling Watermelon Episode 9 Recap Contains Spoilers-
Sparkling Watermelon episode 9 starts with Yi-chan along with his band playing a song at Eun-gyeol’s scholl, to convince him to join the band again. However, Eun-gyeol says that he will join the band on one condition: Yi-chan has to leave Se-kyung along cause he is in love with her. This infuriates Yi-chan and they both start to fight. When Se-kyung tries to break the fight, her identity is revealed and the school finds out that she returned from abroad to Korea again.
Somehow, both Yi-chan and Eun-gyeol managed to flee from the scene. Cheong-ah helped Yi-chan escape the premises by tripping the teacher who was following them. On the other hand, Se-kyung puts En-gyeol through a test where she asks the reason why he likes her. He replies with a compelling answer instantly. However, the teacher caught them and they were sent to the principal’s office.
Cheong-ah is upset with Eun-gyeol because of the way he acted in the morning. When Se-kyung sees them together, she gets suspicious about their relationship. However, after school ends, Se-kyung invites Eun-gyeol to try out a spicey dish to check his tolerance level and remove every doubt from her mind. But she promptly stops him from eating because she is afraid to find out the reality.
Meanwhile, Yi-chan invites Eun-gyeol to a restaurant for a meet-up. They try to come up with a solution where they can work everything out and still be in the same band. Finally, they came to the decision that both of them would stay away from Se-kyung until the festival was over. But the next day Se-kyung arrives at school and the news reaches Yi-chan which upsets him because he thinks Eun-gyeol will go behind his back to form a relationship with her.
Yi-chan’s school punishes him by not letting the band practice in the band room. So they came up with another location to practice. Eun-gyeol gets the idea of bringing Cheong-ah along with him. However, when they reach the room, they find Se-kyung is already present there. This leads to another argument between Yi-chan and Eun-gyeol. They came up with another solution Cheong-ah will work as the art designer and Se-kyung as the photographer for the band. Eun-gyeol takes Se-kyung with him and Yi-chan sits with Cheong-ah in the room.
Eun-gyeol and Se-kyung go to a faraway place to capture beautiful scenes but their scooter fails to start so they have to walk a long distance. On the other hand, Yi-chan checks out the art by Cheong-ah and finds out that she also drew his face and it leaves him confused. On the other hand, Eun-gyeol and Se-kyung have an intimate moment where they share their deep thoughts. Eun-gyeol leans in for a kiss and the episode ends on that note.
Twinkling Watermelon Episode 9 Review: Final Thoughts
The new episode is equally as entertaining as the previous one. It is increasingly becoming more interesting as the story progresses. Although the story is filled with cliched tropes, the execution is done with subtlety and sophistication. Moreover, it perfectly displays the behaviours and thought processes any teenager goes through, which makes the characters relatable to the audience. The actors have also done a good job of bringing the characters to life onscreen.
