However, she walks into a survival situation where almost no one can be trusted.

Carlson Young’s directorial Trust follows Lauren, an actor, a former child star and television favourite whose private information and pregnancy test are leaked online. With the media all over the place, she escapes to an isolated property with her dog, Georgie, but the house is not as safe as she thinks. The crisis is compounded when another making the night and the following day a difficult time for Lauren.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Trust.

Trust Ending Explained: What Happens to Lauren?

Lauren’s entire life has basically become a public spectacle. After her private information is leaked, the actor is suddenly dealing with the kind of scandal that can destroy the carefully polished image Hollywood has built for and around her.

Her pregnancy becomes the central part of the story, making an already invasive situation more personal, so Lauren leaves. She heads to a remote Airbnb with Georgie, hoping that travelling off to a quieter place and away from cameras will give her some space to figure out what she wants to do next. The isolation, however, becomes the exact thing that makes her vulnerable.

Marcus knows that Lauren is staying there because of hidden security cameras around the property, and he does not exactly intend to hurt her, but his uncle Darren and Darren’s housemate Merg see an opportunity to rob the place.

That is where Lauren’s quiet escape completely falls apart.

Who Traps Lauren Inside?

Darren and Merg break into the property to rob Lauren. Scared of the intruders, Lauren runs and ends up hiding in the property’s boiler room, where she eventually gets trapped, turning the safe space into a little prison for her.

Georgie, nevertheless, manages to escape, which is honestly a stressful part of the entire movie because Lauren is now alone, injured, terrified and locked inside a tiny room while people outside are trying to break in.

But turns out that Darren and Merg were not the actual biggest threat because someone else is already behind Lauren’s life.

Who Betrayed Lauren in Trust?

The biggest betrayal comes from Peter Johnson, the man whom Lauren trusted much. Peter is connected to Lauren’s pregnancy, and after she does not agree to abort the baby, Peter decides that the problem needs to disappear.

Peter sends a private detective, Kroft, to find and silence her. While Lauren is fighting for her life against criminals who happen to break into her hiding space, another threat is hunting her down.

Darren and Meg were there because they want money, but the private detective is there because someone Lauren trusted wants her gone, and that is when suddenly the title Trust starts feeling less like a title and more like a warning.

Does Lauren Escape the Boiler Room?

Yes, she does, but not easily. Lauren spends much of the time desperately trying to get herself out of the boiler room. The situation becomes even more dangerous when a pipe breaks and water starts flooding the room.

She eventually uses whatever she can find around her to create a way out. It is messy, desperate, and very not the glamorous Hollywood survival sequence that one would imagine, but it works.

Lauren manages to force her way out just as the situation around the house reaches peak chaos.

Do Darren and Merg Escape?

The robbery goes catastrophically wrong. Merg’s attempt to force his way into Lauren’s hiding room turns violent, and Marcus is shot dead during the confrontation. Darren is also shot while Merg dies in the chaos.

Darren survives long enough to make it to the hospital, but by this point everything has spiralled far beyond the original robbery story. What began as a burglary becomes a bloody chain involving Lauren, Darren, Merg and Marcus, and eventually Kroft.

How Is Peter’s Involvement Discovered?

The hidden cameras are important. Marcus had installed cameras around the Airbnb, meaning that there is evidence of what happened inside the property; Darren is questioned, and eventually Kroft’s conversation with Peter exposes his involvement.

Lauren finds out that Kroft was behind her life because Peter had ordered him to when she hears him on the call during her confrontation with Kroft.

Does Lauren Survive Trust?

Yes, Lauren does, and she does not simply survive the physical nightmare, but she walks away from the identity that other people had constructed of her.

The police arrive after the chaos, and Lauren is finally rescued. Peter’s involvement in the attempt on Lauren’s life is exposed, and his career falls apart, with the police taking him away right from his vanity room.

Lauren makes a decision that feels almost like the emotional opposite of what had happened to her. She chooses herself.

What Happens To Lauren’s Baby?

Lauren decides to keep the baby.

After everything that happened, she refuses to let other people decide what happens to her next and eventually shares the pregnancy publicly on her own. This matters because for most of the Trust, Lauren’s story is largely controlled by people around her, but by the end she finally takes back control.

What Does The Ending of Sophie Turner’s Trust Mean?

The title itself is the biggest possible clue. Lauren spends the movie surrounded by people she should not trust, and ironically, some of the people she barely knows end up helping her more than the people she trusted.

Peter is the clearest example of someone Lauren once trusted, yet he becomes the person willing to have her killed because she refused what he told her to do.

The movie also plays beautifully with the idea of public identity. Lauren has spent years being presented as America’s sweetheart, but that image only worked when everyone around her agreed to maintain it.

One scandal was enough to break the carefully constructed version of Lauren, and what emerges is a Lauren who is much tougher. The final decision to keep her baby and live her life on her own terms becomes Lauren’s real escape.

She is not just out of a room; she gets out of the version of herself that Hollywood, Peter and the public had created for her. After everything she goes through, that might be the most satisfying part of the movie to end.

Sophie Turner’s Trust leaves Lauren bruised and shaken, but it also makes her alive with the next chapter of her life belonging to her.
