Top Gun Maverick is breaking box office numbers with every passing day. The film has been called Tom Cruise’s biggest domestic earner ever and, that statement is saying something. From the otherworldly cinematography to the emotional drama that makes the core of the film, this latest Cruise film has cruised through our hearts with success in every aspect. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, this action drama is written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer and Christopher McQuarrie from a story by Peter Craig and Justin Marks.
Serving as a direct sequel to the 1986 classic Top Gun, this latest film has some of the stars from the previous film reprising their roles with an introduction to some new ones. Tom Cruise reprises his role as Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell along with Jennifer Connelly as Penny and Val Kilmer as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky. The cast also features Miles Teller, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Monica Barbaro in important roles. The film is set 30 years after the events of the 1986 movie, where we see Maverick return to the Top Gun program as an instructor and is tasked to prepare a new batch of aviators for a dangerous mission, with one aviator being his dead best friend, Goose’ son Rooster.
Top Gun Maverick is presently the fourth highest-grossing film of 2022, receiving critical acclaim in every aspect. Gaga’s song walks on the line of loneliness and support and, is dedicated to everyone out there who feels like things are never okay but, all they need is a hand to hold onto and cry to shed off the sadness and loom. The track released a dramatic black and white video of Gaga playing the piano on a dusty runway in the middle of a barren landscape.
Top Gun Anthem by Harold Faltermeyer and Steve Stevens
Making a classic comeback to the Top Gun Maverick OST is the Top Gun Anthem song from the 1986 film. An instrumental rock that is essentially the title track of the film, the piece is written by Faltermeyer with Stevens, with one playing the keyboard and the other a guitar. The song ever won Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1987. The song’s music video is directed by Dominic Sena.
