They Cloned Tyrone Trailer: Mind Control and Unethical Genetic Experimentation Are Just the Beginning

In a big new swing by Netflix, the They Cloned Tyrone trailer shows just exactly how dystopian some science fiction can get. Directed by Juel Taylor who also joins the crew as a writer along with Tony Rettenmaier, this film is set to star John Boyega, Teyonah Parris, Jamie Foxx, David Alan Grier, Kiefer Sutherland, J Alphonse Nicholson, Megan Sousa, Austin Freeman, Joshua Mikel and James Moses Black, alongside other cast members. Foxx also joins the crew as the producer along with Charles D. King and Stephen “Dr” Love. The film is shot by Ken Seng and edited by Saira Haider.

A still from the trailer

The trailer shows our three main protagonists become unlikely partners and take part in some sketchy stuff before they realise that their whole world has turned upside down. Dubbed the Hustler, the Pimp and the Pro, the three characters start their own business in crime, trying to skim a little more money than they could have gotten doing any other job. However, their relationship becomes more than give and take when they find themselves in an elevator that takes them somewhere scary.

When they get there, it is filled with scientific equipment and some things that are incredibly concerning. The thing that truly drives them away from the place is another Tyrone sleeping soundly on the bed. When they get back, he reminds them that he does not who this man is, and most importantly, it is not him. However, that is not the only thing making the people in the neighbourhood go crazy. After Foxx’s character realises, there is something wrong with the chicken. They understand that all the products coming into the neighbourhood are making the residents submissive.

But amidst all of this serious and highly thrilling storytelling, there are moments of humour and comedy that will give this film an edge over the others for sure. While there may not be many avenues for people of colour in the film industry, this film exudes ownership over culture, behaviour and humour over the kind of narratives that would be present in their communities. So far, the film seems incredibly interesting, blending multiple genres together to make a stellar film.
