In The Wheel of Time Season 2 Episode 5 ending, it is revealed that Moiraine has been using Rand all along. Saving him was just a part of her scheming plan to use him as bait to get to the Dark One. Now, this dark presence is gathering forces to capture the world once again.

To find a safe space for herself and Rand, protecting the latter is very important to Moiraine. As Rand has a soft corner for Selene- someone Lanfear used to be before, it creates a conflict in Rand but, he finally agrees. Meanwhile, Lanfear is seen describing Rand beautifully to Ishamael.

At the end we see Rand go to sleep as a spider closes on us. But, Rand is trapped in a dream/nightmare of some kind. Lanfear is there and all prepared to ask him all the difficult questions she wants to.
