The Time Traveler’s Wife Finale: A Wedding Gone Weird

The Time Traveler’s Wife has finally given us the epic ending we have been waiting for but, was it enough? The finale revealed and reassured the audience and the characters in all ways possible, leaving us with a pang of hunger in the stomach for more.

In The Time Traveler’s Wife finale, we entered the prep and aftermath of Clare and Henry’s wedding. From right before a month from the wedding, we see Henry stress out and time travel drastically. He stops sharing his visits with Clare and, is clearly not as invested in the wedding preparation as Clare. However, this is exactly the time Henry also starts bonding with his father- a man who must know what it is like to lose someone in a marriage.

Right a day before marriage, Henry tries to hunt for the meanest possible that will get him to focus and stay at his wedding without time travelling at the altar. This search leads Henry to an old companion and some truths from the future that might make all the difference in this story.

The finale of The Time Traveler’s Wife was well laid out. Instead of a lot of events, this episode focused mainly on the wedding day and the days before that, helping the audiences understand the more linear narrative. Yet now the series has come to an end, it still feels more like Henry’s story than Clare’s, right? Clare did have her own share of storytelling, yes. But, aren’t we looking at things more from Clare’s eyes than Henry perceives Clare to be?

The ending of the season is a rather smart one that almost leaves you at a cliffhanger but, also lets you make peace with it. This only makes the viewers curious to know more. It also looked more grounded to be a romantic drama with different ages of Clare and Henry bonding. It is a good thing that the makers have not tried to say it all in one series but, pick out the most quintessential subplots and let them play out beautifully.

The cast has performed tremendously and, they might just be the highlight of the entire series. Rose Leslie and Theo James’ chemistry sells and makes you root for them. It would be interesting to see more of Clare’s sister as the actor really nailed it in her first appearance.
