For the unversed, Yusra and Sarah Mardini are Syrian refugees who made headlines for their bravery in helping a group of refugees cross the Aegean Sea to safety. When the dinghy they were travelling on began to sink, the sisters jumped into the water and swam alongside the boat, helping to keep it afloat and eventually guiding 18 people to safety.
The film follows their journey as refugees, including the challenges they faced and Yusra’s eventual success as a member of the Refugee Olympic Team at the Rio Olympics. Despite facing numerous obstacles, the Mardini sisters have shown resilience and determination in their efforts to build a better life for themselves and others.
The film is directed by Sally El Hosaini and co-written by her and Jack Thorne. Moreover, it also premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival and received critical acclaim upon its release.

The clip features the leading duo, describing their training routine, and the process of learning to swim from scratch. Furthermore, it also finds them discussing the disciplined routine that helped them to overcome the obstacles of becoming a professional, in just a matter of three months.
All in all, the film tells a powerful and inspiring story of these two young women who overcame adversity and fought to create a hopeful future for themselves and others.
