The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Episode 1 to 3 Review: The series is created by author Jenny Han, whose novel series the show is based on. It has music by Zachary Dawes and cinematography by J.B. The main cast for the series features Lola Tung as Isabel Conklin aka Belly alongside Jackie Chung as Laurel Park, Rachel Blanchard as Susannah Fisher, Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher, Gavin Casalegno as Jeremiah Fisher, Sean Kaufman as Steven Conklin, Alfredo, Narciso as Cleveland Castillo, Colin Ferguson as John Conklin and Tom Everett Scott as Adam Fisher. For The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2, we have two new faces joining the cast. Actors Kyra Sedgwick as Julia and Elsie Fisher as Skye are going to be a part of the recurring cast in the upcoming season. The first three episodes are titled ‘Love Lost’, ‘Lost Scene’ and ‘Love Sick’, respectively. The runtime for the episodes is under 60 minutes.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Episode 1 to 3 Review
The way The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 1 wrapped up was incredible. There was the hurt and pain of Susannah’s cancer as there was the blooming love and anticipation that came with Belly and Conrad’s first kiss. The first season turned the book into a series of our dreams which puts very high expectations from the second season. And, besties, we are happy to report that the premiere for the second season stands tall and strong.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Episode 1 picks up right where it left us off. It is a Belly-Conrad summer and, yes, everything is extremely pretty and pink love. However, this segment is short-lived before Belly pulls us back into a reality that is dark and depressing. She is living with her mother and brother, the latter is going to Princeton apparently and everything is rather mundane and upsetting for Belly. To let us know why things are the way they are, we get moments of flashbacks.
It is a non-linear way of storytelling with the pretty past being reminisced as the painful present goes on. Belly is clearly not doing well. Susannah is not a part of her life and nor are the boys. What happened from the last summer to the present one is what the first two episodes focus on with the third episode finally giving the estranged characters a chance to reconnect.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 does not miss a beat when it comes to detailed and beautiful storytelling. The characters have come a long way since we knew them last season and the actors depict that incredibly well. Lola Tung’s Belly has had a massive development that we witness in the first three episodes as we stay with her the most. The nuanced portrayal of a teenager that has gone through too much too fast is not lost in Tung’s eyes.
There are also a couple of new characters that have entered the scene- Susannah’s sister Julia and, Julia’s daughter Skye. We do not get a lot of time with them but, there is something in Julia’s story that draws us to her. She is like the new Conrad this time around. It will be interesting to see how aunt Julia, Conrad and Jeremiah cross paths throughout this season.
The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 Episode 1 to 3: Final Thoughts
Overall, The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2 is off to a good start. The season feels more mature with the themes of death and loss taking over everyone. There is clearly a lot of pain and healing that is going to happen in this season and, our vote is that it will be a good depiction. Our hopes are high and fingers crossed!
