The Sand Castle Review
The plot of the film follows a family of four stranded on an isolated island, hiding a secret that will leave you shocked. As the film progresses, the truth slowly begins to open up, revealing a shocking reality that is different from the beautiful island in front of us. The film brings out stunning imagery, beautiful cinematography, and a plot that pulls you into an illusion that you thought was a silver lining.
The film is breathtakingly beautiful; this is something that I have to point out because not only is the island straight out of our imagination, but you see a world on this island that is far from the chaos of the world. While three of the family members are looking for ways to leave the island, the youngest member and daughter of the couple are happy just being with her family on this island.
The striking scenes on the island shift from one feeling to another and soon, you find yourself drawn to the mystery of the film. While questions like Why is the family here on this island and How are they able to survive this song floating in your head, the emotions shift once again. This shift may sometimes bring you confusion but it still somehow makes sense, until the final scene.

The final scene; is without a doubt the most crucial to the film as this is where everything finally makes sense. Unfortunately, it is here that viewers are so easily left in confusion. What you see here is a rush of memories from the family’s hometown that slowly begin to reveal what is really happening. This is where the truth about the family’s isolation on this island is revealed.
While it is understandable that this scene was supposed to be a more artistic kind of creation, there is flow missing in these scenes and I found it hard to grasp the sudden change that takes place. While the final message that appears on screen does make everything clear and solves the film for me, the message failed to be shown on screen which is a huge letdown because this film is truly a wonderful piece of work.
Coming to the performance of the cast- it is simply wonderful. It couldn’t have been done any better as the four people on screen created such an atmosphere that I was unable to look away from the screen. The magic they brought about just perfected this illusion of a normal family on an isolated island.

But the highlight for me has to be the writing, words are not enough to show how moved the narration has left me. The words in this film are enough to bring goosebumps because not only are they moving, but the words used are so simple that they leave you stunned. The comparison of the sea with a monster, and one that takes you away while being the only escape has me applauding the writers.
Summing Up
Overall, The Sand Castle on Netflix is a deep, meaningful, thrilling film that should not be missed. With any intense entertainment, the film manages to move you with its simplicity, the beauty of the island, and the actors who bring out their best on screen.
Watch The Sand Castle on Netflix.
