The Perfect Couple Ending Explained
When the series starts, we see Amelia, Benji and the rest of the guests at the wedding party arrive at Nantucket to enjoy the rehearsal dinner and then the wedding. From the start, there is an awkward and cold atmosphere in the house – she is clearly the outsider and is made to feel so. However, when her best friend Merritt arrives, she is made to feel more at ease as well as the arrival of her own family. It is told from the get-go that her mother is suffering from cancer and is receiving chemotherapy and thus is quite sensitive about losing her hair.

After a day and evening of drinking and having fun, however, we find out that Merritt has turned up dead on the beach and Amelia is the one who has found her body. Thus starts the investigation into the family by police chief Dan Carter and detective Nikki Henry. Meanwhile, Amelia, too, starts to look into her in-laws and we see that the night of her rehearsal dinner Merritt had shared that she was having an affair with Tag and was pregnant with his baby. The situation quickly escalates as Greer tries to control the narrative with little success and Tag’s past indiscretions become a sore subject at the dinner table, resulting in a feud.
As everyone starts to become a success and more infidelities come to light, we see that Benji’s best friend Shooter, who had previously known Amelia from years ago, tries to make a run for it from the island. Although he is not successful, it comes to light that he is also extremely rich and although Amelia is at first miffed by him not telling her the entire truth, the two of them do share a passionate kiss after not being able to ignore the tension between them. Benji catches them and it results in their engagement ending, something that probably doesn’t faze Amelia much since she was already unsure about marrying him.
Who Murdered Merritt?

After going through everyone’s dirty laundry, we find out that it was Abby who murdered Merritt. Although Thomas tries to pin the blame on his mistress Isabel at first, Nikki figures out the real culprit in the end.

How Was She Drugged?
Thomas had a habit of stealing pills from everyone and doing a “pill cocktail”. In one of his excursions to steal, he landed up in Mr and Mrs Sachs’s room and stole one of her barbiturates without realising what he was stealing. Abby ended up taking quite of few of Tom’s pills, crushing them up and mixing them in pressed juice that she then took to Merritt as she was sitting on the beach. After the pills started taking effect, she lured Merritt into the water and then drowned her and she was too groggy to protest too much.
Why Was Merritt Murdered?

Abby ended up murdering Merritt out of greed. The three brothers were supposed to get their inheritances after all three of them reached adulthood which was supposed to be in a few weeks when Will turned 18. However, Merritt’s child would’ve reset that timer and they would’ve had to wait for another 18 years and Abby refused to wait that long considering the debt that they were already in.
What Was Greer’s Backstory? Why Didn’t She Like Amelia?

In a shocking twist in episode 6, Greer, tired of putting up a facade, tells her entire family the truth about her life. She opens up that their father doesn’t work and that she was extremely poor growing up. The desperation ended up making her turn to prostitution and Tag was one of her clients. Plus, she also introduces them to her brother, Broderick Graham, whom she has been helping pay off his gambling debt for all of these years. The revelations leave everyone shocked.
Also, Greer didn’t like Amelia at first because the latter represents everything that she couldn’t be but most importantly, Greer was jealous of Amelia’s free spirit and her not caring about what others think. When the series ends, Greer asks Amelia out for coffee while visiting London, hoping to have her as a friend.
Who is Shooter? Why was He Embroiled in The Mess?

Shooter Dival is Benji’s best friend and turns out to have known Amelia from before. He and Amelia start forming a connection when she becomes unsure of her relationship with Benji and they end up kissing each other. He helps Greer out by giving her a huge loan. Although he didn’t know what it was for and the police ended up letting him go, it turns out that Greer had used the money to free her brother from his gambling debt.
Do Tag and Greer Break Up?

Due to Tag’s constant cheating and his dependency on her for everything financially, Greer gets tired of carrying around his dead weight and decides to take charge of her life. Her ending in the book series surrounding Dash and Dolly probably signifies the ending of her relationship with Tag. Although we don’t definitively see it, it seems like the two do break up in the end.
