The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 2 Episode 5 finds the gifted orphans searching for their kidnapped team member Constance, while the adults are still seemingly trapped by the Dr Curtail. The episode also features recurring characters like Dr Garrison and Martina Crowe. For the unversed, the fantasy drama show is centred around the mysterious society of talented kids, formed by the ever-loving Mr Benedict, played by Tony Hale.
The complete cast of the series includes MaameYaa Boafo as Rhonda, Ryan Hurst as Milligan, Mystic Inscho as Reynie Muldoon, Seth Carr as Sticky, Emmy DeOliveira as Kate Wetherall, and Marta Kessler as Constance Contraire, Tony Hale as Dr Curtain/Mr Benedict and Kristen Schaal as Number Two. Moreover, the title of this episode is Blank Expression and has a runtime of thirty minutes.
-The Mysterious Benedict Society Season 2 Episode 5 Review Does Not Contain Spoilers-
The episode starts with the kidnapping of Constance, while Reynie, Sticky and Kate figure out a way to find their integral team member. The trio drops off the train and looks around for clues in the rural area of France, and also takes the help of an old foe-turned-ally, Martina, in the process.
Meanwhile, Number Two gets frustrated with Dr Curtain’s vile plan and tries to convince Mr Benedict to leave the place once and for all. However, she learns that the eccentric twin is already flustered by Curtain’s plan of imposing global happiness (through his wicked scheme), and is in no mood to go anywhere.
The episode also features Dr Garrison, the loyal assistant of Curtain, who seeks nothing but revenge after getting duped with all the blame, for the failure of the global emergency. It is revealed that she was the one behind the mercenaries/ polo players, who were following the orphans in the first place. Now she has her own set of plans, which involves Constance and the brain sweeper.
The episode takes the series ahead in terms of the story and makes use of all the recurring characters. It is also a kind of break from the central scavenger hunt and involves a side mission of retrieving Constance. Furthermore, the episode is typically high on absurd deadpan humour, which makes it an engaging watch.

I thoroughly loved the conversations between Constance and Dr Garrison in this episode, where the former demeans the adult with all the meanest taunts and remarks. Followed by the unpaid mercenaries complaining about their long-due payment, and cross-checking international bank transfers (yes, they did). Notably, Constance’s confrontation strategy almost works in her favour, until it all ends on another cliffhanger.
The episode has all the traditional elements of the drama series and doesn’t fail to hook you in with the adventure. It is funny, engrossing and absurdly nuanced, and finds the gifted orphans stuck with another piece of the clue. P.S. the adults are still lagging behind to follow up with the bunch, and might have found themselves in trouble.
