Elena Ferrante’s novel The Lying Life of Adults is coming alive this January on Netflix to show the shades of adolescence. The Lying Life of Adults aka La Vita Bugiarda Degli Adulti, is an Italian series revolving around the teenager Giovanna, who goes on a pursuit to find who she really is along with her Aunt Vittoria, who is hated by Giovanna’s parents. Directed by Edoardo De Angelis, the series will contain six episodes.
Giovanna’s pretty face is changing, turning ugly, at least so her father thinks. Giovanna, he says, looks more like her Aunt Vittoria every day. But can it be true? Is she really changing? Is she turning into her Aunt Vittoria, a woman she hardly knows but whom her mother and father clearly despise? Surely there is a mirror somewhere in which she can see herself as she truly is.

The Lying Life of Adults Synopsis
The official Netflix description of the series reads,
The search for a new face, after the happy one of childhood, oscillates between two consanguineous Naples which, however, fear and hate each other: the Naples above, which has given itself a fine mask, and the one below, which pretends to be excessive, trivial. Giovanna oscillates between high and low, now tumbling, now climbing, bewildered by the fact that, up or down, the city seems without answer and without escape.
Giovanna who hears a criticising remark about her face from her father, Andrea, sets on a journey with her Aunt Vittoria to break down illusions and uncover terribly family secrets in Naples. As Giovanna gets caught up between her rigid parents and careless aunt, the series will show how the teenager paints the adult life.
