Yash Raj Films presents the “biggest confusion of the year” in The Great Indian Family trailer released on September 12, 2023, and at the centre of this new Bollywood saga is the unlikeliest hero of all – Vicky Kaushal as a Pandit! Premiering later this month itself, the Hindi-language family romance drama film has been written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, and produced by Aditya Chopra. It also stars Manushi Chhillar, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Sadiya Siddiqui, Srishti Dixit and others.
As Balrampur town’s favourite, Kaushal introduces himself as “Bhajan Kumar” aka Ved Vyas Tripathi, the son of a family of long line of Pandits, and also the “undisputed king” of Bhajans. However, his well-established reputation like so hindered his path in getting close to any girls of his age because while other guys of his age were having fun, he was out doling blessings. Yet that’s not to say that he didn’t have his share of fun either, because he did pull shenanigans now and then.
And then finally, he found his match in Manushi Chhillar’s character, a gorgeous young woman who greeted him with ‘Hi” and “Hellos” instead of the usual “Namastey ji”. With this, his life took a great turn indeed and everything was rainbows and sunshine for him until the gods decided to present him with the other side of the stick of their twisted sense of humour.
A fateful letter finds its way to the Pandit family, delivering an unprecedented notice that will change his life forever. Turns out, the child born in the Pandit house on December 7 is supposedly a Muslim. A case of misfortunes and chaotic interventions break out with a confusion unlike any other. Families drift apart as a severe identity crisis kicks in while raising severe questions about faith, religiosity and individuality.
Promising a fun and frolicking roller coaster of mental and sentimental emotional chaos, Kaushal ends his introductory note by inviting members of the audience to the theatres along with their whole family.

The Great Indian Family‘s music has been composed by Pritam, with the lyrics having been penned by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The official trailer also features the song Kanhaiya Twitter Pe Aaja performed by Nakash Aziz, which was pre-released ahead of the movie premiere on August 30, 2023.
