The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Episode 8 Review- Sir, That Is A Child

This show certainly doesn’t mess around before getting to the point, does it? Not a second had passed from the end of the last episode to the start of this one for the show to breathe, and we have already been thrust into another storyline that could have far-reaching implications for the show’s future. I guess that is also something to commend the show for, that it doesn’t waste the viewers’ time and gets straight into the action. Alternatively, one could also see it as not giving the viewer time to breathe between arcs, but this is more of a glass half full kind of situation.

The plot of this episode revolved around Llovelmina again, who has taken it upon herself to invite her brothers, alongside Wein, to an impromptu discussion of who gets to be the ruler of the empire. Llowelmina’s previous arc was not the most interesting in the show. Still, she was a good enough character to warrant another go in the show, especially in an outing that was less convoluted than her first. This doesn’t mean her first appearance was bad, but it could have been better.

Wein’s sister has been in the background of most episodes so far, and The Genius Prince’s Guide Episode 8 brings her to the forefront for the first time. The situation is quite intriguing, involving a ton of backstabbing, betrayal, and political plotting on the part of several of the characters, depending on how you feel about medieval politics and dictatorship. This kind of thing either excites you or turns you away. Whatever you feel about it, it is hard to deny that it was done very well here.

There is always the matter of women having less of a role to play in society than men in settings like these, and it is great to see Genius Prince Episode 8 tackle this issue head-on. The show first brought this up during Llowelmina’s first arc, and while it was a background issue then, it is the main one now. There is a point in this episode where it is nobody but girls interacting with each other and learning how to deal with this world, which was nice to see. It was also bold to create an entire episode in which their protagonist doesn’t play a major part. This risk paid off, and the episode turned out to be good.

It was certainly not a new storyline, but it was done well here. There were a bunch of new characters introduced, most of whom were pretty stereotypical. Stereotypes exist for a reason, so their existence isn’t inherently bad. However, they should be used with some care lest the show seems to be low effort. The soundtrack of this episode was great and felt positively regal at times. This was another episode without the opening theme, but those have become the show’s trademark by now.
Verdict
The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt Episode 8 was another solid effort by the show, one which was able to draw a lot of laughs and intrigue.
