The Banshees of Inisherin is an upcoming drama film starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson in the lead roles. The film produced by Searchlight Pictures, it will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on 4 September 2022 and a theatrical release at a later date. It is written and directed by acclaimed Academy Award-winning director, Martin McDonagh.
The synopsis of the film under the trailer reads, that it follows lifelong friends Pádraic and Colm, who find themselves at an impasse when Colm unexpectedly puts an end to their friendship. A stunned Pádraic, aided by his sister Siobhán and troubled young islander Dominic, endeavours to repair the relationship, refusing to take no for an answer.
But Pádraic’s repeated efforts only strengthen his former friend’s resolve and when Colm delivers a desperate ultimatum, events swiftly escalate, with shocking consequences. The whole film is set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland, whose scenic landscapes give the film a cinematic depth.

The cast of The Banshees of Inisherin includes Colin Farrell as Pádraic, Brendan Gleeson as Colm, Kerry Condon as Siobhán, Barry Keoghan as Dominic, Pat Shortt, Gary Lydon and Sheila Flitton. The film will supposedly have a runtime of about 1 hour and 49 minutes.
In the trailer, we see that Pádraic get to know some old lady that he is suddenly not friends with his old friend Colm anymore. From then on starts the frenzy between the two, where Colm ultimately threatens him with cutting off his own fingers, every time Pádraic tried to talk to him. Bit extreme isn’t it?
The trailer has some elements of humour with the donkey/pony story, but overall it is a suspense drama where we really want to know why is Colm so angry with his friend of so many years. Well, it sure will be a hell of a ride with some shocking revelations that might mend their friendship or break them apart even more.
It looks like one of those stories where a small matter between two people escalates so much that the whole town is in on it, with everyone picking their sides and making things even worse. What if the reason behind his indifference is something ridiculously small? It will really be a tragedy then.
